Worldlog Semaine 36 – 2009

La nouvelle rentrée parlementaire bat son plein. Parmi toutes les agitations nous reçûmes une excellente nouvelle de nos homologues allemands.

Lors des élections fédérales en Allemagne, le Tierschutzpartei (le parti pour les Animaux allemand), a obtenu 2,1 % des votes dans la région de Saxe. C’est un résultat formidable! Le Tierschutzpartei gagne du terrain: lors des dernières élections, ce parti n’avait encore obtenu que 0,2 % des voix. Après les Pays-Bas, ce sera donc bientôt à l’Allemagne de faire entrer un parti pour les animaux au Parlement.

Au total il y a eu 36.914 citoyens de Saxe qui ont voté pour le Tierschutzpartei. Si les 2,1 % des voix ne permettent pas de dépasser la barre des 5 %, la croissance énorme que connaît ce parti allemand permet tout de même de parler d’une grande réussite! Le Parti pour les Animaux espère que ce succès allemand inspirera d’autres pays à participer aux élections. Car au Brésil par exemple, il ne suffirait que de la moitié du pourcentage allemand pour obtenir un siège au parlement !

Le 29 et le 30 août dernier a eu lieu le 1er Festival du Film International du Brésil, à Curitiba. Ce qui est formidable c’est que notre film Meat the Truth a justement obtenu là-bas une mention honorable, dans ce pays où vit la très active Mary Winckler. Meat the Truth faisait parti des trois films couronnés.

Le 15 novembre Meat the Truth avait déjà reçu une Distinction Honorable du Film Council of Greater Columbus, pendant le Columbus International Film and Video Festival aux États-Unis.

Depuis, ce documentaire a été montré dans de nombreux pays, tels que le Taiwan, l’Australie, la Nouvelle-Zélande, l’Équateur, le Canada, l’Italie, l’Allemagne, l’Argentine, la Slovénie, le Singapore, le Portugal et la Grande Bretagne. Il a été traduit déjà en 6 langues: en chinois, en croate, en espagnol, en portugais, en slovène et en Italien. En ce moment on prépare la traduction turque, allemande et française. Les versions sous-titrées en néerlandais, en anglais et en portugais ont été mis en ligne depuis, afin d’atteindre le grand public. Le 15 septembre prochain il y aura « Prinsjesdag » aux Pays-Bas, la journée solennelle du discours de la reine. Selon la coutume toutes les femmes invitées portent un chapeau, et chez nous il est coutume déjà de mettre un chapeau transmettant un message pour le bien-être de l’animal. Je mettrai quelques photos dans le Worldlog qui suivra la journée de Prinsjesdag.
Je ne m’en tiens qu’à là, vu le fait que la semaine passée les traducteurs ont eu beaucoup de travail pour le long texte.

The run-up to the new parliamentary year is in full swing. And in the midst of all the attendant hullabaloo we received some fantastic news from our German sister party.

In the Saxony federal state elections, the Tierschutzpartei, the German party for the animals, received 2.1 percent of the votes. A great result! The Tierschutzpartei is making great strides: at the previous elections, the party captured a mere 0.2 percent of the vote. Now Germany, after the Netherlands, seems set to soon have a party for the animals represented in the national parliament.

A total of 36,914 Saxony citizens voted for the Tierschutzpartei. With 2.1 percent of the votes, however, the party still failed to reach the electoral threshold of 5 percent. Yet seen in the context of the party’s impressive growth, this still qualifies as a great result! The Party for the Animals hopes that the success of the German Tierschutzpartei will inspire other parties for the animals around the world to participate in elections. In Brazil, for example, just half of the percentage obtained in the German election would have been enough to secure a seat in the parliament!

We also just received some good news from Brazil. The very active Marly Winckler informs us that our film Meat the Truth received an honourable mentioning during the 1st International Film Festival for the Rights of Animals, which took place in Curitiba, Brazil on 29 and 30 August. Meat the Truth was one of three films awarded prizes at the festival.

Meat the Truth had already been awarded an honour from the Film Council of Greater Columbus on 15 November 2008 during the Columbus International Film and Video Festival in the United States.

The documentary has now been screened all over the world in countries such as Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Ecuador, Canada, Italy, Germany, Argentina, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia, Singapore, Portugal and Great Britain, and has been translated into 6 languages: Chinese, Croatian, Spanish, Portuguese, Slovenian and Italian. Work is currently underway on Turkish, German and French translations. The Dutch, English and Portuguese subtitled versions are currently available free online in an effort to get a large audience acquainted with the film.
