Worldlog Semana 47 – 2009

La semana pasada hemos estado trabajando con la Ley para la Crisis y la Recuperación en el Parlamento Holandés. Bajo el escudo de la ‘lucha contra la crisis’ se aceleran todo tipo de proyectos infraestructurales tales como la construcción de nuevas carreteras, limitando aun más las reacciones por lo que se dejan apartes los temas como los animales, la naturaleza y el medio ambiente. Es un secándolo muy grande y supuestamente hemos votado en contra. Esperamos que la propuesta sea detenida por el senado. Nuestro representante hará todo lo posible para esto.

No tenemos muchas esperanzas con respecto a la adjudicación hacia nuestro Partido de una extra silla en el Parlamento Europeo. Aunque este claro que cuando el gobierno hubiera seguido el informe del Consejo Electoral, la silla hubiera sido nuestra, los demás partidos políticos en Holanda no quieren atenerse a lo convenido. Los periódicos Holandeses escriben que la silla pertenece al partido anti-islámico Partido para la Libertad (PVV) de Geert Wilders. Vamos a hacer todo lo posible para cambiarlo pero no tenemos muchas esperanzas que salga exitoso.

En una noche de estas a una representante de un o de nuestros grupos provinciales de trabajo se le dejo en su jardín una cabeza de cabra sangrienta puesto en un palo.Una carta adicional indico que el culpable se preocupaba del hecho que ella había participado en una discusión acerca de la pesca de la (muy amenazada) anguila. “Ella mejor se preocupara del sacrificio ritual de tales animales”.
Y es precisamente ese tema acerca del cual nuestro Partido elaboro una iniciativa para una ley! Pero bueno, las personas que odian a
los animales y que quieren poner mal a las personas protectoras de los animales difícilmente se les puede convencer con argumentos. Quien se da cuenta lo que causa a otras personas necesita poca fantasía para darse cuenta como compartarse con los animales.

Dentro de poco viajo para Copenhague para la conferencia climatologica. También presentaremos ‘Meat The Truth’ y anticipo mucho poder encontrame con otras personas afines de otras partes del mundo (como por ejemplo la increíble Marly Winckler de la asociación Brasilera de Vegetarianos).

La semana pasada leí también una noticia muy reconfortante sobre el científico Americano Patrick.O.Brown quien va a luchar por una solución científica para poder juzgar el sobre consumo de albúminas animal y ofrecer alternativas para las mismas.

Tales iniciativas siempre me dan muchas esperanzas. Deseo que tengan una semana agradable y hasta pronto!

This week we have been busy in Dutch parliament with the Crisis and Recovery act. Under the guise of ‘crisis recovery’, every kind of infrastructural project, such as the creation of new roads, is being pushed through and the time given to allowing others to have their say on the matter has been shortened. This means animals, nature and the environment now receive zero consideration. This is a scandalous state of affairs which we voted against. We hope the next step is that the senate will stop the proposal and our representative will their very best to ensure that this happens.

Unfortunately, the discussion about who will be awarded the extra seat in European parliament does not look too promising. This flies in the face of the fact that if the government had followed the electoral council’s advice, the chair would have been awarded to the Party for the Animals, but it seems other political parties in the Netherlands do not want to listen. Dutch newspapers write that the chair will be ‘conceded’ to Geert Wilder’s anti-Islamic Dutch Freedom Party (PVV), but the parliamentary debate on this subject still needs to be held and we will fight to the last – even though the prognosis is unfavourable.

This evening someone erected a bloody sheep’s head on a stick in the chairman of one our provincial workgroup’s garden. The accompanying letter talked of the perpetrators concern that our chairman had participated in a discussion about limiting the eel harvest – an extremely endangered animal. “She really should be more worried about ritual slaughter”.

Oh, would that be the subject that our party creates a private member’s bill for! But anyway, people who hate animals and who want to paint those who protect animals in a bad light are hard to convince with words and arguments. Those who can see what these people do to others don't need a great deal of imagination to know how they treat animals.

I will soon be travelling to Copenhagen for the climate conference. We will also screen Meat the Truth and I am looking forward to meeting like-minded people from other parts of the world, such as the incredible Marly Winckler from the Vegetarian Society of Brazil.

This week I also read a highly encouraging report about an American scientist called Patrick O. Brown who will work towards a scientific way to denounce the over-consumption of animal proteins and to offer alternatives.
