Worldlog Semana 03 – 2013

El nuevo año es siempre el signo de buenas intenciones. Mi intención es bien clara: también en este año vamos a estar plenamente comprometidos con los animales, la naturaleza y el medio ambiente! Sin embargo, nos gustaría que lo más rápido posible se ponga un fin a la explosión de fuegos artificiales en el Año Nuevo. En diciembre volvimos a pedir la prohibición de fuegos artificiales de consumo. Cientos de personas se lesionan cada año por los fuegos artificiales en las calles, muchos de ellos son niños. Asimismo, el estallo de los fuegos artificiales causa ansiedad y estrés a millones de animales y además perjudica el medio ambiente. Ha Llegado el momento de poner fin a todo esto.

La gran mayoría de la Cámara no tiene ningún problema con el incumplimiento con sus obligaciones internacionales con respecto a los cambios climáticos. Esto es evidente por la votación de la moción que presente justo antes del receso. Allí le pedí al Gobierno que tome las medidas necesarias para alcanzar los objetivos climáticos que los Países Bajos se han comprometido cumplir en el marco de las Naciones Unidas. Los Países Bajos han reconocido oficialmente que la tierra no puede calentarse más de 2 grados. Por otra parte, el gobierno ha reconocido y aceptado que los Países Bajos tomarían las medidas necesarias para evitar un mayor calentamiento. Esto significa, entre otras cosas, que las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero holandeses tendrán que disminuirse en 2020 con un 40 por ciento al compararse con 1990.

Es vergonzoso ver que los Países Bajos se niegan a asumir sus responsabilidades. Somos uno de los mayores contaminantes del mundo. Tenemos que parar desde ahora con el aumento del calentamiento global. Sólo un cambio radical en la política ofrecerá la perspectiva de un futuro más sostenible.

La "carne" que se produce a partir de carne realmente no comestible de una vaca es definido por Oliver Como 'pink slime'. Su trabajo para llamar la atención a la 'slime rosa' ya ha dado sus frutos: Jamie Oliver ha sido acusado por crear un alboroto en torno a "limo rosa".

Y la gente en la próxima película han tenido muy buena suerte con su viaje para ver "delfines": vieron el raro fenómeno de 'super-pod: un grupo muy grande de delfines en conjunto.

No quisiera dejar de compartir con ustedes el siguiente video animación! Se muestra muy claramente en tres minutos cuáles son los problemas en la tierra.

En los Países Bajos sigue creciendo el porcentaje de vegetarianos y las personas que de vez en cuando dejan su porción de carne. Desafortunadamente pasa lo contrario en la India. Un grupo cada vez mayor de la clase media en la India cambia su estilo de vida vegetariano por un menú con carne. Esto hace aumentar la presión sobre el medio ambiente, nuestra materia prima, la naturaleza, el bienestar animal y la biodiversidad. Debe crearse un enfoque global del problema de la alimentación. Una de las soluciones esta en la Unión Europea: el presupuesto agrícola común de la Unión Europea en los próximos años debería ser usado para ayudar a los agricultores en su cambio hacia la agricultura biológica.

Esta semana comienzan de nuevo las reuniones de la Cámara. En la próxima semana aun tenemos pendiente por discutir el presupuesto de Asuntos Económicos. Los Asuntos Económicos incluyen todos los archivos referentes a la agricultura intensiva, el bienestar animal y la naturaleza para hacer. Queda suficiente trabajo por hacer!

The new year is always a time for resolutions. My own new year’s resolution is clear: continue the fight for animals, nature and the environment! At the same time, we would like to see an end to all the banging and explosions around the new year’s celebrations. In December we again argued for a ban on consumer fireworks. Each year hundreds of people, including many children, are injured by fireworks. Moreover, the racket causes stress to millions of animals and fireworks are bad for the environment. It is high time to put a stop to the practice.

The vast majority in Dutch members of parliament seem to have no trouble whatsoever with the fact that the Dutch government is failing to meet its international climate obligations. This sad fact was made clear during the vote on my motion before the parliamentary recess. In the motion, I asked the government to take the measures necessary for the Netherlands to meet its climate objectives under the UN Climate Treaty to which it is a signatory. The Netherlands has officially stated that the earth must not be allowed to warm any more that two degrees. Moreover, the government has promised that the Netherlands would take measures necessary to prevent any further warming of the planet. This means that Dutch emissions of greenhouse gases must be reduced by 40 percent in 2020 relative to 1990.

It is shameful that the Netherlands refuses to take its responsibility. We are among the world’s worst polluters and we must immediately end the continued warming up of the planet. Only a radical change of policy offers the perspective of a more sustainable future.

The percentage of people in the Netherlands that are vegetarians or forego meat on a regular basis is growing. Unfortunately the opposite trend can be observed in India. The growing middle class in India is increasingly exchanging its vegetarian lifestyle for a meat-filled menu. This trend will increase the pressure on the climate, our natural resources, nature, animal welfare and biodiversity. We need to tackle the food problem as a planet. One of the solutions can be offered by the European Union: over the next few years, the UN agriculture budget must be used to help farmers switch to biological agriculture.

Parliament is back in session. On the agenda for next week is the discussion of the budget of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. Economic Affairs includes all the portfolios dealing with intensive livestock raising, animal welfare and nature. So I will be pretty busy as you can imagine!
