Worldlog săptămâna 19 – 2015

Pentru început am vești bune! Datorită unei moțiuni a partidului nostru, nu se mai permite momentan forarea gazului pe teritoriul și în jurul insulei neerlandeze Terschelling din Marea Wadden. Majoritatea Camerei Inferioare a Parlamentului a votat pentru moțiunea noastră. Insula Terschelling este situată pe teritoriul Mării Wadden. Aceasta este o rezervație naturală unică, protejată, dar care în prezent este insuficient protejată împotriva activităților dăunătoare, precum forajul gazului și exploatarea sării. Sunt foarte bucuroasă că moțiunea noastră a fost adoptată și vom continua să luptăm pentru interzicerea pentru totdeauna a forării gazului în jurul Mării Wadden.

În Worldlog-ul de acum două săptămâni v-am povestit deja despre frauda cu carne de curcan, care a fost constatată la câțiva măcelari din Țările de Jos. Autoritatea neerlandeză pentru Siguranța Alimentară a început acum o investigație amplă pentru a cerceta dacă măcelarii vând în mod repetat carne de curcan ieftină drept carne de miel.

Săptămâna trecută am vorbit de asemenea despre fluxul de refugiați din țări precum Siria, ca urmare a războiului civil care are loc acolo. Voi continua să subliniez atât în cadrul Camerei Inferioare a Parlamentului, cât și în afara ei faptul că este important ca aceste probleme să fie analizate dintr-o perspectivă mai amplă. Nu trebuie să ne îndreptăm atenția doar spre soluțiile pe termen scurt, dar și spre ceea ce cauzează aceste probleme. De exemplu, problema refugiaților este legată și de faptul că noi consumăm mai mult decât planeta pământ poate suporta: deficitul de alimente, seceta și defrișarea. Toate acestea sunt probleme care cauzează conflicte, războaie și fluxuri de refugiați. Aceasta reiese și din următoarea cercetare. Cred că este timpul ca politicienii să ia, în cele din urmă, în serios aceste probleme!

Dintr-un raport al organizației World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) reiese că în cazul în care nu se ia nicio măsură, aproximativ 170 de milioane de hectare de pădure vor dispărea până în anul 2030. 170 de milioane de hectare reprezintă suprafața Germaniei, Franței, Spaniei și Portugaliei luate împreună. Defrișările vor avea loc în 11 regiuni, dintre care 10 sunt situate la tropice. WWF arată că principala cauză a defrișărilor este extinderea agriculturii, inclusiv a sectorului zootehnic. Studii recente au arătat că Europa este unul dintre cei mai mari importatori de produse care au legătură cu defrișările. Schimbări la scară largă în sectorul zootehnic și în comportamentul consumatorilor sunt extrem de necesare!

În New York Times am dat peste acest articol pe care vreau să-l împărtășesc cu voi. Este vorba despre sclavia modernă din industria pescuitului. Peștele și fructele de mare care ajung pe farfuriile noastre se dovedesc a fi de multe ori capturate de către muncitori extrem de exploatați. The Guardian a făcut acum un an de asemenea o anchetă pe acest subiect.

I have some good news to start with! Thanks to our motion gas drilling on and around the Dutch Wadden Island of Terschelling is prohibited for the time being. A majority of the Lower House voted in favour of our motion. Terschelling is situated in the Wadden Area. It is a unique nature reserve that is currently insufficiently protected against damaging activities such as gas drilling and salt mining. I am delighted that our motion was granted and we will continue to fight for no more new gas drilling around the Wadden Area.

In my Worldlog of twee weeks ago, I told you about the fraud with turkey meat that was discovered at a few butcher’s in the Netherlands. The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority has started an extensive investigation to find out whether butchers sell cheap turkey meat for lambs meat on a structural basis.

Last week, I also discussed the flow of refugees from Syria among other countries as a result of civil war. I continue to point out – both inside and outside the Lower House – that it is crucial to see those problems in a bigger perspective. We should not only look at short-term solutions but more particularly at the source of these problems. The refugee issue is, for example, connected with the fact that we consume more than the earth manages to provide: food scarcity, drought, deforestation. They are all problems that cause conflicts, wars and flows of refugees. This is, for example, evident from this study. It is high time that politicians start to take these problems seriously.

A report of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) showed that approx. 170 million hectares of forest will be lost by 2030 if no action is taken. 170 million hectares is an area as large as Germany, France, Spain and Portugal together. This deforestation will take place in 11 areas, of which 10 are in the tropics. The WWF says that the main cause of deforestation is the growing farming industry, including the livestock industry. Recent studies showed that Europe is one of the largest importers of products that can be linked to deforestation. It is crucial that we make large-scale changes in livestock farming and in our consumption behaviour!

I came across this article in the New York Times, which I would really like to share with you. It is about modern slavery in the fishing industry. Fish and sea shells often appear to have been caught by badly exploited workers. The Guardian also already investigated this one year ago.
