PAN propone delle leggi per porre fine alla caccia alla volpe e ai metodi crudeli di caccia

The Portuguese party for the animals (People-Animals-Nature, PAN), has recently presented two bills: one that ends fox hunting in Portugal and another that prohibits cruel hunting methods like the use of packs of hounds and the use of ‘clubbing to death’ techniques.

PAN’s initiatives are in line with the “Movement for the Abolition of Fox Hunting”, a Portuguese citizens’ movement that has launched a petition for the same purpose, collecting more than 10,000 signatures in a very short time.

According to this Movement, fox hunting is a barbaric and cruel activity in which the hunters are allowed to club the foxes to death and to use up to 50 dogs to catch and kill them. Dogs, in this case, serve as a weapon against the fox. The fight between the dogs and a fox always results in the death or near death of the fox. During these fights many dogs end up seriously injured too.

PAN has also pointed out the legal inconsistency of using dogs to kill other animals during hunting, because fights between animals are legally prohibited in Portugal. An exception is made for ‘cultural events’, which can include fox hunting. According to PAN a fight between a fox and 1 to 50 dogs, is no less cruel than a fight between two dogs and therefore the use of packs of hounds for hunting should be banned too.

PAN says that these kinds of hunting methods are morally reprehensible and don’t belong in the 21^st century.

Il partito per gli animali portoghese (Persone-Animali-Natura, PAN), ha recentemente presentato due progetti di legge: uno che terminerà la caccia alla volpe in Portogallo e un altro che proibisce metodi di caccia crudeli come l’uso di branchi di cani da caccia o di bastonarli fino alla morte.

Le iniziative del PAN sono in linea con il “Movimento per l’abolizione della caccia alla volpe”, un movimento dei cittadini portoghesi che ha lanciato una petizione per lo stesso scopo, raccogliendo più di 10.000 firme in poco tempo.

Secondo questo Movimento la caccia alla volpe è un’attività barbarica e crudele in cui ai cacciatori è permesso di bastonare le volpi fino ad ucciderli e di usare fino a 50 cani per catturarli e ucciderli. I cani, in questo caso, servono come arma contro la volpe. Il combattimento tra cani e una volpe porta sempre alla morte o alla quasi morte della volpe. Durante questi combattimenti molti cani finiscono per essere gravemente feriti.

PAN ha anche sottolineato l’incoerenza legale dell’uso di cani per uccidere altri animali durante la caccia, poiché i combattimenti tra animali sono proibiti per legge in Portogallo. Viene fatta un’eccezione per “eventi culturali”, che possono includere la caccia alla volpe. Secondo PAN un combattimento tra una volpe e da 1 a 50 cani, non è meno crudele che un combattimento tra due cani e quindi anche l’uso di branchi di cani per la caccia dovrebbe essere vietato.

PAN dice che questi tipi di metodi di caccia sono moralmente riprovevoli e non appartengono al 21-esimo secolo.
