La semaine dernière, j’ai pu assister l’équipe de téléphonistes pour le compte ‘giro555’ afin de registrer les dons pour aider les gens aux Philippines. On pouvait aussi faire une offre pour acheter mon Colbert que l’on peut voir sur l’une de nos affiches de campagne.

Je me soucie beaucoup du nombre toujours plus élevé de désastres naturels et de leur gravité. Les scientifiques qui étudient le climat, disent que le réchauffement de la terre est à la base de désastres naturels catastrophiques. Nous ne savons bien sûr pas si le typhon Haiyan est dû directement au changement climatique, mais je crois en le scénario ‘no regret’: nous sommes coresponsables du changement climatique. Soyons donc enfin actifs et essayons de réduire au maximum notre part dans cette évolution en adoptant un autre style de vie. Le changement climatique a un impact important notamment sur des pays tels que les Philippines. Assumons, ici dans l’Ouest, notre responsabilité pour les conséquences induites par nos émissions immenses de gaz à effet de serre et aidons ces pays. Cameron, le Premier ministre de la Grande-Bretagne, plaide également pour un scénario ‘no regret’. Un des rares moments que je suis d’accord avec lui…

Notre film ‘Le lièvre dans le Marathon’, qui raconte l’histoire de notre Parti pour les Animaux vient de gagner un award dans la catégorie ‘Best Documentary on Animal Advocacy’ (‘meilleur documentaire de promotion des animaux’) lors du Film Festival STEPS International en Ukraine. Il est bon qu’un festival de cinéma stimule la réflexion et la discussion sur les droits humains, des animaux et de la protection environnementale en Ukraine car il reste encore un long chemin à parcourir dans ce pays. L’organisation pour le bien-être animal PETA a fait un film sur la vérité cruelle qui se cache derrière la ‘production’ de la laine angora en Chine. Faites attention: les images sont choquantes. Un film qui contient un message très clair: n’achetez pas de pulls en laine angora! La semaine dernière, nous avons aussi posé des questions parlementaires concernant l’importation de produits fabriqués à partir de la laine angora en provenance de Chine. Nous voulons une interdiction européenne d’importation de ces produits. Tant qu’une interdiction n’est pas en vigueur, nous sommes en faveur d’un système transparent d’étiquetage pour que les gens puissent choisir eux-mêmes s’ils veulent acheter ou non des pulls faits de la laine angora (provenant de Chine).

La semaine dernière, j’ai participé à un débat sur le futur de nos aliments. Pendant le débat, j’ai à nouveau déclaré que nous aurions besoin de quatre globes terrestres si partout dans le monde les gens adoptaient le modèle de consommation des Néerlandais. Bill Gates a affirmé que le futur de la viande est un ‘futur végétal’. Et ainsi en est-il.
En Norvège, l’armée norvégienne va par exemple combattre un nouvel ennemi: le changement climatique. Leur arme: un MeatFreeMonday (‘Lundi-Sans-Viande’). Ici vous en pouvez lire plus.
Signez aussi la pétition pour interdire l’accès à l’Afrique du Sud à la chasseuse de trophée américaine Melissa Bachman. Sur son site web vous pouvez voir quelles pratiques de chasse affreuses sont promues par cette actrice américaine.
Nous avons envoyé il y a quelque temps une charte à l’attention de Bob Barker, une personnalité de la télévision célèbre aux Etats-Unis, en reconnaissance de son travail fantastique pour améliorer le bien-être animal dans la bio-industrie. Il était très honoré et la semaine dernière, il a fait publier un article à ce sujet. Chouette! Dans cet article de presse il a indiqué que: ‘I’m touched and moved to receive this recognition for my efforts to correct the inhumane treatment of farm animals. It’s gratifying and reassuring to know that this call to action is heard across international borders and leads to this kind of responsible political activism’.

I am extremely worried about the increasing number of natural disasters and the intensity with which they occur. Climate experts have affirmed that global warming causes severe natural disasters. Naturally, we do not know whether the typhoon Haiyan is a direct consequence of climate change, but I assume a no regret scenario: we are partly responsible for climate change, so let us now take real action to minimise our share by changing our way of life. Climate change has major impacts, particularly on countries such as the Philippines. Let us from the West take responsibility for the consequences of our gigantic emissions of greenhouse gases and help those countries. Cameron, the prime minister of the United Kingdom also advocates a no regret scenario. It is one of the few occasions I agree with him …

During the STEPS international Film Festival in Ukraine, our film ‘The Pacer in the Marathon’, on the history of the Party for the Animals (PvdD), has won the award for Best Documentary on Animal Advocacy. It is good that a film festival further boosts the discussion in Ukraine on human and animal rights and nature preservation. It is badly needed there. Have you not seen The Pacer in the Marathon yet? The Dutch animal welfare organisation PETA has made a short film on the gruesome truth behind the ‘production’ of angora wool in China. Beware: the images are shocking. It is a film with a very clear message: Do not buy angora sweaters! Last week, I asked parliamentary questions about the import of angora products from China. We want a European import ban on angora products. As long as the ban is not in place, there must be a clear labelling system, so that people can choose not to buy angora sweaters (from China).

Last week, I participated in a debate about the future of our food. In the debate, I reiterated that if Dutch consumption patterns were to be adopted globally, we would need four globes. Bill Gates has said that the future of meat is plant-based. And so it is.
In Norway, for instance, the Norwegian army is going to combat a new enemy: climate change. Their weapon is a MeatFreeMonday. Read more about it here.
Sign the petition to deny American trophy hunter Melissa Bachman access to South Africa. On her website, you will see what horrible hunting practices this American actress promotes.
Some time ago, we sent a certificate of appreciation to Bob Barker, a major TV personality from the United States, for his remarkable work on improving animal welfare of animals in factory farming. He was very honoured and issued a press release about it last week. Great! He wrote in his press release: “I’m touched and moved to receive this recognition for my efforts to correct the inhumane treatment of farm animals. It’s gratifying and reassuring to know that this call to action is heard across international borders and leads to this kind of responsible political activism.”
