Euro Parlement votera le pillage légal de la mer Baltique
‘Projet de l’UE légalise la surpêche‘
Eurodéputée Anja Hazekamp appelle ses collègues dans le Parlement européen à voter contre le projet de pêche pluriannuel de l’UE pour la mer Baltique. Le projet original avait l’intention d’arrêter la surpêche de la morue, du hareng et du sprat en mer Baltique. Mais selon le Parti pour les Animaux le projet Baltique a tellement été affaibli que cela ne donnera rien. « Ce projet ne protège pas les poissons. Ce projet légalise la surpêche, » prévient Hazekamp.
Le Parti pour les Animaux critique entre autres l’étirement de la limite dite Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) (traduit: Rendement maximal durable): le point où les eaux sont maximalement pêchées. Selon les accords européens existants on ne pourra pas pêcher au-delà de la limite MSY à partir de 2020. Pourtant ce projet de la mer Baltique introduit des exceptions où les pêcheurs sont bien autorisés à pêcher plus.
« La permission de la surpêche dans la mer Baltique mènera également à la surpêche dans d’autres eaux. Les pêcheurs qui possèdent maintenant des exceptions pour la surpêche légale de la mer Baltique, voudront bientôt avoir ces exceptions pour la mer du Nord et la Méditerranée. Ce projet de la mer Baltique établit un précédent et ouvre ainsi la porte pour continuer à piller structurellement les eaux européennes. Si tel est le maximum que l’Europe veut faire, alors la surpêche ne cessera lorsque toutes les eaux sont vraiment vides, » a déclaré Anja Hazekamp.
“EU plan legalises overfishing”
MEP Anja Hazekamp calls on her colleagues in the European Parliament to vote against the EU multiannual plan for managing the Baltic Sea. The plan was initially intended to put an end to the overfishing of Baltic Sea cod, sprat and herring stocks. However, according to the Party for the Animals, the Baltic Sea Plan has been mitigated to such an extent that ending overfishing is no longer an option. “This plan does not protect fish; it legalises overfishing,” warns Hazekamp.
Among other things, the Party for the Animals criticises the stretching of the boundaries of the so-called Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY): the largest yield that can be taken from a species’ stock. From 2020, fishing beyond the MSY limit will not be allowed under the existing European agreements. However, the Baltic Sea Plan introduces exemptions that allow fishermen to cross the MSY limit.
“Allowing overfishing in the Baltic Sea will ultimately lead to overfishing in other waters. Fishermen who are now granted derogations for legally overfishing in the Baltic Sea, will soon demand the same exemptions for the North Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. This Baltic Sea Plan creates a precedent which opens the door to the possibility of a continued structural pillaging of all European waters. If this is all Europe is willing to do, overfishing will not stop until all waters are truly and entirely empty,” according to Anja Hazekamp.
