Worldlog Semana 28 – 2008

Esta semana fue la última reunión del Senado, las vacaciones de verano de la Segunda Cámara ya comenzaron la semana pasada. Esta semana estuvo en la agenda del Senado el Acuerdo de Lisboa, una variante de la constitución europea que los electores holandeses rechazaron en forma masiva.

El gobierno holandes no se atrevió a presentar nuevamente esta moción a la población y, de acuerdo con otros estados participantes sólo hizo algunos cambios cosméticos a la constitución (se suprimió la bandera y la canción europea, el resto quedó igual).

Por lo tanto el senado, bajo presión, tuvo que dar rápidamente su aprobación a esta constitución europea poco amistosa con los animales ( con una cobertura ilegal) ¡en la cual los toreos, la matanza ritual y la alimentación impulsiva de gansos reciben un status legal!. Donde el aumento de la producción puede ser la única finalidad de la previsión europea. ¡Es escandaloso que se trate de manera tan poco democrática los intereses de los animales, naturaleza, medio ambiente y electores!. El Partido por los Animales realizó una campaña con capas de vacas contra la constitución, y con éxito.

¡Afortunadamente el 4 de Junio del año próximo los electores tendrán una nueva oportunidad de expresarse en esta antidemocrática Europa. ¡Supongo que el Parlamento actual recibirá agudas críticas!.

De Rumania recibimos la noticia que también allá se trabaja por la realización de un Partido por los Animales y por ese motivo es posible que la Worldlog va a aparecer en Rumano. Después del verano realizaré un cauteloso plan en mi Worldlog sobre la forma de comenzar un Partido por los Animales en tu propio pais y como desarrollar con éxito una campaña para introducirse en el Parlamento y/u otros órganos representativos.

En el último sondeo antes de las vacaciones , como Partido por los Animales, tenemos un 50% de ganancia, y ésto será mucho más. Podemos contar con un potencial de electores de 7-8%, según una investigación de elecciones. ¡Esto ofrece perspectivas!.

Este es el último Worldlog antes del verano, desde mi dirección vacacional los mantendré al tanto, en forma resumida, de las noticias internacionales sobre los animales.

El 6 y 7 de Agosto daré una conferencia en la Universidad Fortaleza en Brasil, ya ha comenzado en Brasil una Orkut community.

Deseo terminar este Worldlog con un hermoso in-memoriam del escritor holandés Hans Andreus que hizo en la despedida de su amigo y diseñador de la cubierta de sus libros, Jaap Boots.

Lo que mas recuerdo de él,
Es cuando, con un movimiento,
un gesto furtivo con el cual,
por ejemplo,
tomaba una mosca que se ahogaba
Y caminaba hacia afuera
Y la colocaba como un
objeto no costoso o raro,
pero sí como si fuera una
joya con patitas.

Es hermoso ser recordado como alguien tan compasivo. Ya comienza la estación de los insectos, ¡ es bueno estar concientes de la pequeña vida a nuesto alrededor!.

This week saw the last convening of the senate before the summer recess. The lower house recessed last week. On the senate’s agenda in this final week was the Treaty of Lisbon, a variation of the European Constitution which itself was massively rejected by Dutch voters.

The Dutch government, this time not daring to give the voters a say in the new proposal, consulted with other EU member states and made only a few cosmetic changes to the constitution (the European flag and European anthem were scrapped but everything else remained intact).

And so the senate, facing a tight deadline, was required to grant its approval to this extremely animal-unfriendly European constitution that constitutionally legitimises bull-fighting, ritual slaughter and the forced-feeding of geese! It also sets increased production as the sole aim of the European agricultural policy. It is scandalous that undemocratic mechanisms as these are being used to violate the rights of animals, nature, the environment and voters! Donning cow-cloths, the Party for the Animals waged a successful campaign against the constitution.

Fortunately, voters will get another chance on 4 June 2009 to voice their concerns about this undemocratic state of affairs in Europe and I predict that our politicians are in for quite a shock!

We have received news from Rumania that efforts are underway to establish a Party for the Animals in that country. Consequently, we may start translating this Worldlog in Rumanian as well. After the summer recess, I will use my Worldlog to provide step-by-step instructions on setting up a Party for the Animals in your own country and on how to campaign successfully for parliament and/or other representative bodies.

The latest pre-recess polls give the Party for the Animals a 50% gain in support and I predict that rise in support will actually turn out to be far higher. According to voter surveys, we can count on the support of 7-8% of the electorate. That’s extremely promising for our future as a party!

This week’s Worldlog will be the last before the summer. However, I will be sending short dispatches from my holiday address to keep you informed of any relevant international animal news.

On 6 and 7 August I am scheduled to lecture at the University of Fortaleza in Brazil and an Orkut community has been started in support of this.

How wonderful it is to be remembered as someone with so much compassion. The insect season is approaching: a good time for us to spare a thought for the tinier forms of life around us!
