Worldlog Semana 20 – 2009

Esta semana les envío el Worldlog desde Nueva York donde me encuentro por la 17ª conferencia de las Naciones Unidas con tema ‘durabilidad’, además por lo del ‘Veggie Pride Parade’ y el premiere en New York de nuestra película ‘Meat The Truth’.

Fue una semana bastante ocupada. Como comente fue primero la conferencia de las Naciones Unidas, presidida por la Ministra de Agricultura de Holanda, la Sra. Gerda Verburg.

Ella lucha por una revolución ‘verde’ no queriendo entender que la única forma para llegar a ese fin seria un menú que contiene menos albúminas animal.

Yo había solicitado a la delegación Holandesa la posibilidad para organizar un evento aparte para poder presentar ‘Meat The Truth’ pero me presentaron todos los obstáculos posibles, tanto en forma formal como informal. Entonces los representantes de la oficina científica del Partido para los Animales alquilo una sala en el Church Center de las Naciones Unidas para organizar nuestro propio evento, lo que obviamente molesto a la delegación Holandesa. Pero la película fue recibida con mucho entusiasmo por las organizaciones no gubernamentales allí presentes de muchos países y también por la prensa Americana.

Fue muy chistoso ver que el príncipe Holandés hizo una presentación durante la conferencia el jueves (el día después de la presentación de la película) abogando por menos albúminas animal por la mala influencia que causa su producción para las reservas de agua dulce!
Crece lentamente la conciencia pero si crece!

El domingo participamos con un grupo de Holandeses amantes de los animales en el Veggie Parade en Nueva York. Después de esto hicimos dos presentaciones de Meat The Truth en el New York Film Academy. Hubo mucho interés y muchas reacciones entusiastas. Aquí les damos una impresión por foto.

Una otra noticia interesante esta semana fue el despliegue del Partido Pirata de Suecia. La empresa Pirate Bay facilita a los consumidores de internet el intercambio de programas en el terreno de música, cine y software. El juez Sueco ha condenado los dueños a prisión, pero resulto entretanto que el juez tiene sus ligas con la industria musical.

Los Pirate Bayers van a apelar y entretanto formaron su propio Partido, el Partido de los Piratas. El partido parece crecer rápidamente para ser uno de los partidos políticos más grandes de Suecia. Escribieron una declaración de principios interesante en el terreno de los derechos de los humanos, la privacidad y patente, también acerca de los animales y las plantas. Hay una posibilidad grande que van a tener un representante en el Parlamento Europeo y me gustaría que nuestra candidata principal, Natasja Oerlemans, investigue las posibilidades para una colaboración con ellos.

Tanto el Partido para los Animales como el Partido Pirata son formas exitosas de protesta de los electores contra la política establecida. Ambas buscamos una sociedad sin represión. Una revolución interesante que podría llegar hacia un gran cambio en los partidos políticos tradicionales. No les quedara de otra!

Hasta la semana entrante y espero que este Worldlog inspire a muchos de Uds. para trabajar en sus países en los subtítulos de la película Meat The Truth y la presentación de la película. Sin embargo, tenemos un mensaje que no solo manifiesta sentimientos latentes de aversión sino también ofrece una perspectiva muy fácil de acción la que podría cambiar el mundo de una forma muy positiva. Me refiero a un mundo mas positivo para las plantas y los animales y un mundo más duradero y con mas compasión. Juntos podemos hacer una muy gran diferencia. Welcome to this week's WorldLog from New York City where I am attending the 17th conference on sustainability at the United Nations and also for the Veggie Pride Parade and the New York premiere of our film about the climate, 'Meat the Truth'.

It has been an exciting week. First the sustainability conference at the UN, also attended by the Dutch minister of agriculture, Gerda Verburg.

She argues for a green revolution, but does not want to face the fact that they only way to achieve it is with a plate that features less animal proteins.

I beseeched the Dutch delegation to organise a side event, to show Meat the Truth, but I met resistance at every turn. The Party for the Animals' science office hired a hall in the UN's Church Center, and organised the side event there, to the visible displeasure of the Dutch delegation. The film, however, was received with a great deal of enthusiasm by the Non-Governmental Organisations from a number of countries and the American press.

And funnily enough, the Dutch crown prince gave a speech at the conference on Thursday, the day after showing the film, and he argued for…less animal proteins due to the amount of fresh water it uses!

Understanding is dawning slowly, but it is dawning!

On Sunday we took part in the Veggie Pride Parade in NY with a group of Dutch animal lovers, and for the occasion we showed Meat the Truth twice at the New York Film Academy. A lot of people showed up and we had some very enthusiastic responses. Below is a photo of the event.

In other interesting news this week, the rise of the Swedish Pirate Party. The business called Pirate Bay provides a platform for Internet users to exchange music, film and software. A Swedish judge handed down a custodial sentence on the owners, but that judge later proved to have ties with the music industry.

The Pirate Bay owners have not only appealed the decision but also set up their own party, the Pirate Party, which is rapidly growing into one of the largest political parties in Sweden. They have written an interesting statement of principles concerning civil rights, privacy and patent laws, including patenting animals and plants. They are very likely to be voted into the European parliament and I predict that our Party leader Natasja Oerlemans will be looking into ways to collaborate with them.

Both the Party for the Animals and the Pirate Party are successful forms of expressing voter resistance against the established political order. Both are looking to create a society in which freedom is respected and where oppression is banned. They are citizens against an established order. This is an interesting revolution that could lead to huge changes in traditional political parties. It’s about time!

I will see you again next week, and I hope this WorldLog will inspire many of you to work on subtitling Meat the Truth in your own country’s language and show the film where you live. We truly have a message that not only shakes people awake showing them a less pleasant side, but also gives them the tools to be able to change the world in a highly positive sense. A diet based more on plants, more animal friendly, more sustainable and with more compassion. Together we can make a huge difference, I am more convinced of this fact after last week than I have ever been before…
