Worldlog Semana 19 – 2013

El pasado martes 30 de abril fue un día histórico en los Países Bajos, cuando tuvo lugar el cambio de trono. Bajo gran interés el rey Willem-Alexander fue coronado como nuestro nuevo rey. Durante la reunión conjunta del Senado y la Cámara de Representantes, donde nuestra fracción estaba también presente el nuevo rey tomó el juramento.

Los diputados podían optar también hacer el juramento al rey: “Juramos (prometemos) que vamos a mantener la integridad y los derechos de su reinado”. Nuestro partido, y un número de diputados de otros partidos, optaron por no hacer el juramento. Como miembros parlamentarios del Partido para los Animales consideramos suficiente el juramento que hicimos en nuestra inauguración. Jurar lealtad al rey también está en contradicción con la Constitución e incluso con el juramento pronunciado por el rey donde promete la protección de todos los holandeses. Los parlamentarios no deberían expresar lealtad hacia una persona, ya habiendo hecho una promesa de lealtad a la Constitución. Con todo fue un día muy especial. Deseamos que el nuevo rey tenga un buen futuro.

En el período previo al 30 de abril, la gente pudo a través de nuestra página web participar en una competición donde podían presentar un consejo a favor a los animales al rey Willem-Alexander. La mejor entrada se mostro digitalmente en el Beurs van Berlage en Amsterdam, el edificio en el que se encuentra nuestra oficina. El lema “Querido rey, me duele tanto cuando dispara con su pistola ‘(foto de abajo) como una referencia a las actividades de caza del rey Willem-Alexander ha sido nombrado como la mejor entrada. Supuestamente esperamos que Rey Willem-Alexander tome de corazón nuestro consejo.

La semana pasada estuve en Estambul para el estreno de la versión turca de nuestro documental “De Haas in de maratón” sobre los diez años de existencia de nuestro Partido para los Animales. Fue un gran encuentro, muy inspirador para poder intercambiar ideas con personas afines acerca de los animales, la naturaleza y asuntos ambientales. Aquí les presento una breve impresión de nuestra visita a Turquía.

En mi Worldlog de la semana pasada ya escribí acerca de nuestra nueva iniciativa para recaudar fondos para poder comprar naturaleza que será vendido por medio de una subasta al mejor postor. La Comisión Forestal (la organización en los Países Bajos que maneja una gran parte de nuestra naturaleza) ha puesto la naturaleza en venta. Se ha visto obligado a hacerlo por los recortes sobre la naturaleza que han sufrido por la política que introdujo el anterior Secretario del Estado el señor Bleeker. Deben pagar una suma de 100 millones de dólares a la tesorería del estado. No podemos perder ningún metro cuadrado de naturaleza. En los Países Bajos, sólo existe el 15 por ciento de la original biodiversidad. Por lo tanto hemos empezado como partido esta iniciativa y ya una gran cantidad de amantes de la naturaleza están apoyando la acción! Cosa maravillosa para luchar juntos por la naturaleza, así que espero que muchas personas más se unirán para poder asegurar la naturaleza de la Comisión Forestal.

Last Tuesday the 30th of April was a historical day in the Netherlands, as on that day the succession took place. King Willem-Alexander was inaugurated as the new king under great public interest. The new King swore the oath during the joint meeting of the Upper and Lower House of the States General, which our party, naturally, also attended.

Members of the Parliament could elect to take an oath and swear allegiance to the King: “We swear (promise) to maintain your inviolability and the rights of your kingship.” Our party, and a number of MPs of other parties, had elected not to take this oath. We, as Members of the Parliament for the Party for the Animals, consider the oath that we took on accepting our office to be sufficient. Additionally, the swearing of allegiance to the King is also at odds with the Constitution and even with the oath that the King takes himself, in which he promises to protect the rights of all Dutch citizens. MPs should not undertake duties of loyalty towards a person when they have already sworn or promised allegiance to the Constitution.

All things considered it was a special day. We wish the new King a beautiful future.

In the run-up to the 30th of April, people could participate in a ‘contest’ through our website to send in animal-friendly advice for King Willem-Alexander. The best entry was pictured digitally on the Berlage Exchange Building in Amsterdam, which is where our party’s office is located. The slogan ‘Dear King, it hurts when you shoot your rifle’ (see picture below) as a reference to King Willem-Alexander’s hunting activities was proclaimed as best entry. Of course we hope that King Willem-Alexander will take this advice to heart. 🙂

Last weekend, I was in Istanbul for the première of the Turkish version of our documentary ‘The Hare in the Marathon’ about 10 years of the Party for the Animals. It was a great gathering and it was very inspiring to exchange ideas about animals, nature and the environment with like-minded people. Here is a short photo impression of our visit to Turkey.

In last week’s Worldlog I wrote about our new initiative to collect money to buy chunks of nature that will be sold through an auction to the highest bidder. The Dutch National Forest Service (the organisation that manages the greater part of nature in the Netherlands) has put nature on sale, because it still has to remit 100 million Euro to the state treasury due to cutbacks to nature-based spending made by former State Secretary Bleker. We cannot afford to lose a single square meter of nature. The Netherlands has but 15 per cent of its original biodiversity left. That is why we, as a party, have started this initiative and already many nature lovers are supporting our campaign! It is great to fight together for nature this way; I hope that many more people will join us so that we can secure the nature of the Dutch National Forest Service.
