Partidul pentru Animale și mii de oameni din jurul lumii ies pe stradă în numele drepturilor animalelor
Last weekend, thousands of people across the globe took to the streets to join the so-called Animal Rights March. Their purpose? To put an end to all forms of animal exploitation. The March took place in several countries such as Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Philippines, Canada, Australia, Greece, the United States, Norway and the Netherlands. The representatives of several parties for the animals joined the march in their own countries to send a strong political signal.

Party for the Animals MP Esther Ouwehand addressed the crowd during the Dutch Animal Rights March, outlining a future without animal exploitation as the logical and inevitable step towards social justice. However, the road to justice is not an easy one:
“Each generation has its own social justice movement, challenging us to show the world what we are worth as human beings. The social movement for animal rights is our movement.
And like with any justice movement, there is one group that leads the way. A group that has gained awareness, that is not afraid to feel that there is something fundamentally wrong with the way society treats a certain group – human or animal. Through history, the fate of pioneers has always been the same: being the exception in their environment, they face a lot of misunderstanding, resistance and even aggression.”
However, Ouwehand is also positive:
“It may be hard sometimes, but first and foremost, being a pioneer is incredibly cool. No matter what the world thinks, or how much resistance you are faced with – you listen to your heart and stand for what you know deep inside: that there is no excuse for the unnecessary use, suffering and killing of animals. Remaining true to your deepest values gives enormous strength. And guess what: there are more and more people like you. With the Animal Rights March, we are showing the world that the movement for animal rights is strong and unstoppable – and growing by the day.”
Growing political movement for animal rights
The Dutch Party for the Animals is part of a growing movement committed to the interests of animals through politics and in society. Worldwide, there are now 19 parties fighting to change the food system and make animal rights an essential part of the democratic process. They do this from a planet-wide vision considering the interests of people, animals, nature and the environment in conjunction with one another.

Large-scale suffering and destruction
Worldwide, over 70 billion animals are kept for the production of meat. That number becomes significantly higher when we count fish and the animals used for clothing or experiments. All those animals live in terrible conditions and, being seen as mere products, are unable to exhibit natural behaviour. There are even products that receive better protection than animal. Toilet paper in the Netherlands is better protected against fires than chickens, cows and pigs.
The way we treat animals also seriously jeopardises the future of our planet. A recent study carried out by the universities of Zurich and Oxford revealed that agriculture is a sector that contributes heavily to all major environmental problems. Woodland the size of several football fields is cleared every minute, air, soil and water are seriously polluted, and our water supply is endangered – all for the production of animal products. “A vegan diet is the single biggest way to reduce your environmental footprint – even more so than cutting down on your number of flights or driving an electric car,” say the scientists.
Săptămâna trecută, mii de oameni din jurul lumii au participat la așa-numitul Animal Rights March. Scopul marșului este să pună capăt tuturor formelor de exploatare a animalelor. Acesta s-a desfășurat în mai multe orașe din țări precum Luxemburg, Noua Zeelandă, Filipine, Canada, Australia, Grecia, Statele Unite, Norvegia și Țările de Jos. La marș au participat și reprezentanți ai mai multor partide pentru animale din țara lor, pentru a transmite un mesaj politic puternic.

În timpul marșului desfășurat în Țările de Jos, Esther Ouwehand, parlamentar pentru Partidul pentru Animale, s-a adresat mulțimii. Ea a subliniat că un viitor lipsit de exploatarea animalelor este un pas logic și inevitabil către justiția socială. Totuși, drumul către justiție nu este simplu:
„Fiecare generație are o mișcare pentru justiția socială. Este o provocare care ne forțează să ne demonstrăm valoarea ca ființe umane. Aceasta este mișcarea noastră: mișcarea pentru drepturile animalelor.
Și ca orice mișcare pentru justiție, există un grup care conduce. Cine a devenit conștient, cine îndrăznește să realizeze că există ceva fundamental greșit cu modul în care societatea noastră tratează anumite grupuri – umane sau animale. Soarta pionierilor a fost mereu aceeași de-a lungul istoriei. Tu ești excepția în mediul tău înconjurător. Te confrunți cu neînțelegere, rezistență și chiar agresiune.”
Însă Ouwehand gândește pozitiv:
„Chiar dacă câteodată este dificil, este și incredibil de satisfăcător să fii un pionier. Indiferent ce crede restul lumii și indiferent cu cât de multă rezistență te confrunți, îți asculți inima și susții ceea ce știi adânc în sufletul tău: nu există justificare pentru exploatarea animalelor neajutorate, pentru a le cauza suferință și moartea atunci când nu este nevoie. Este extraordinar cât de multă putere obții când te ții de valorile tale cele mai fundamentale. Și vrei un sfat? Sunt din ce în ce mai mulți oameni ca tine. Cu marșul pentru drepturile animalelor, demonstrăm că această mișcare este puternică și de neoprit – și crește pe zi ce trece.”
Mișcare politică în creștere pentru drepturile animalelor
Partidul pentru Animale neerlandez face parte dintr-o mișcare în creștere care se dedică drepturilor animalelor în politică și în societate. În prezent există 19 partide pentru animale la nivel global care se luptă pentru un sistem alimentar diferit și pentru împământenirea drepturilor animalelor în procesul democratic. Aceasta are loc în cadrul unei viziuni globale ce încorporează interesele omului, ale animalelor, ale naturii și ale mediului înconjurător.

Suferință și distrugere la nivel înalt
La nivel global, peste 70 de miliarde de animale sunt ținute pentru carne. Această cifră este chiar mai mare dacă includem peștii și animalele folosite pentru îmbrăcăminte și experimente. Toate aceste animale trăiesc adesea în condiții inimaginabile, unde sunt văzute strict ca produse și nu își pot manifesta comportamentul natural. Câteodată, chiar și produsele sunt protejate mai bine decât animalele. În Țările de Jos de exemplu, hârtia igienică este mai bine protejată împotriva incendiilor decât găinile, vacile și porcii.
Modul în care tratăm animalele reprezintă de asemenea o amenințare serioasă pentru viitorul planetei noastre. Un studiu recent realizat de universitățile din Zürich și Oxford arată că agricultura este un sector care contribuie la toate problemele majore de mediu. Pentru obținerea produselor de origine animală, în fiecare minut se taie suprafețe de pădure egale cu un teren de fotbal, iar aerul, solul și apa sunt puternic poluate în timp ce sursele de apă sunt periclitate grav. „O dietă vegană este cea mai bună metodă de a reduce amprenta ecologică, chiar mai bună decât a nu mai merge cu avionul sau a conduce o mașină electrică”, spun cercetătorii în cadrul studiului.
