Worldlog Semaine 25 – 2009

Il n’y a pas encore de clarté à propos de la distribution du 26e siège européen pour les Pays-Bas. Tout prête à croire que nous n’aurons pas cette clarté avant l’automne, parce qu’il y a d’abord l’Irlande qui va organiser un nouveau référendum sur le Traité de Lisbonne, donc une ratification n’aura pas lieu avant la fin de l’année. Nous continuons néanmoins à miser sur ce siège auquel nous avons droit tout simplement du point de vue démocratique (par représentation équitable). Je vous mettrai au courant dès qu’il y a du nouveau.

Cette semaine je vais vous donner encore quelques conseils pour fonder un parti pour les animaux.
Il est tout d’abord indispensable de rentrer en contact avec des personnes partageant les mêmes idées. Je vous avais déjà décrit comment on peut montrer aux gens l’intérêt de la défense des animaux au niveau politique, à travers un réseau de repas végétariens et des représentations du film Meat the Truth.

Ce message gagne du terrain surtout dans le sud de l’Europe, en particulier par la création d’un parti pour les animaux au Portugal, mais en Espagne aussi le Parti pour les Animaux se développe bien. La semaine dernière le film Meat the Truth était dans les salles de cinéma à Madrid et la télévision nationale espagnole y a consacré beaucoup de temps. En Island aussi on prépare la présentation du film et on est en train de se pencher également là-bas sur la fondation possible d’un parti pour les animaux.

Quand on ne dispose que de peu de moyens mais que l’on veut tout de même rencontrer des personnes partageant les mêmes idées, on peut avoir recours à des réseaux de sites sociaux. Par exemple, en ouvrant dans sa propre langue un compteTwitter du Parti pour les Animaux, avec lequel on peut tenir le monde au courant des dernières nouvelles à propos des animaux en affichant des liens, on obtient très vite un ‘forum de diverses informations’ concernant le bien-être et le droit de l’animal. Et cela vous permettra de rencontrer un grand nombre de protecteurs d’animaux de votre pays ou de votre langue.

Il en va de même pour les comptes de Parti pour les Animaux figurant sur les sites de votre langue comme hyves, facebook, myspace, linkedIn et orkut.

Le partage de vos idéologies et de vos projets tout en exprimant le désir d’une société plus végétale, donc moins cruelle pour l’animal, pourrait vous être très utile.

La semaine dernière Paul McCartney et Yoko Ono ont fait un appel général pour instaurer une journée sans viande par semaine (Meat Free Monday). J’ai copié cet appel pour le faire passer aux restaurateurs néerlandais afin de suivre cet exemple aux Pays-Bas. Je leur ai offert dans ce cadre un exemplaire gratuit de Meat the Truth (www.meatthetruth.nl) .

Au fait, 70 % des restaurants néerlandais sont fermés le lundi ce qui les rend « Meatfree » (sans viande) de toute façon ce jour-là 😉
J’ai vu récemment un vidéo pas trop mal sur YouTube, ‘sorry earth’, que j’aimerais bien partager avec vous.
YouTube est également un moyen formidable pour informer les gens de tout le mal que l’on fait aux animaux.
Et comme il ne faut surtout pas évoquer uniquement des sentiments cachés d’un mal-être, mais qu’il faut également offrir un champ d’action, il faudrait voir si vous ne pourriez pas mettre au point par exemple un site comme the petition site, pour que les gens puissent agir en cliquant avec leur souris pour améliorer le sort de l’animal.

Tout comme votre fourchette, l’internet est une arme puissante pour la réalisation d’un monde meilleur pour les animaux. Et ce qui est encore mieux, c’est que l’on puisse aujourd’hui même commencer à utiliser cette arme pour faire aboutir le Parti pour les Animaux, dans votre langue, de votre pays.

There is still no news about who is to be awarded the Netherland’s 26th seat in the European parliament. It looks as though we will have to wait until after the autumn because the Irish will be organising a new referendum on the Treaty of Lisbon and we don’t expect ratification before the end of the year. We will keep working all out on securing that seat which from a democratic perspective (in terms of proportional representation) is rightfully ours.

A few more tips this week on setting up your own Party for the Animals.
First of all, it is essential that you hook up with like-minded people. I mentioned previously how you can use vegetarian dinner evenings and screenings of Meat the Truth to get people into the idea of political advocacy for animals.

The message in the film is gaining impetus in southern Europe, especially with the establishment of a Portuguese Party for the Animals and the continuing success of its Spanish sister party. Last week, the film Meat the Truth was shown in Madrid and Spanish national TV covered the story in detail. Moves are also underway in Iceland to get the film screened there and to possibly set up an Icelandic Party for the Animals.

Social networking sites are a great, easy and inexpensive way of coming into contact with like-minded people. A Party for the Animals Twitteraccount in your own language that lets you keep people abreast of the latest animal rights news via links can very soon develop into a kind of ‘news depository’ for items on animal wellbeing and animal rights. This way you will meet many fellow animal rights advocates in your country or language area.

The same is true for Animal accounts on social networking sites in your language, such as hyves, facebook, myspace, linkedIn and orkut.

It can be very useful to share your ideals and plans with others while at the same time advocating a more vegetarian – and hence animal-friendly – lifestyle.

Last week Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono called for the introduction of one meat-free day per week (Meat Free Monday) and here in the Netherlands I have called on restaurant owners to follow their lead, offering them a free copy of Meat the Truth (www.meatthetrut.nl).

As 70% of all restaurants in the Netherlands are closed on Mondays anyway, most of them are already meat free on that day 😉

I happened to see a cool film on YouTube ‘Sorry Earth’ that I would like to share with you. YouTube is a great medium for getting people aware of how animals are being treated.

And as your goal is not only to rouse latent but strong feelings of unease in people, but also to offer them concrete tools, a good idea is to check whether you can set up something in your language area like a petition site that allows people to do something to improve the lot of animals with just a click of a mouse.

The Internet is (just like your fork) a powerful weapon in the fight to create a better world for animals. And the great thing about it is that you can start using this medium today to achieve success for the Party for the Animals in your own language area.
