Buenas noticias para las nutrias: ya se vé en de la crianza de animales peleteros en Holanda. El Martes pasado se dabatióen la Primera Cámara sobre la propuesta de ley para prohibir la crianza de nutrias. Hay una clara mayoría por la prohibición. El martes 18 de Diciembre tendrá lugar un sufragio en la Primera Cámara. Luego podrás amar a la s nutrias, pero ¡debe prohibirse el amarlas por su piel!
Desde el comienzo nosotros hemos estado a favor de la prohibiciWn. Hace poco hemos presentado una moción donde pleiteamos por una prohibición europea de la crianza de animales por su piel. La producción de piel es on-ética, innecesaria, origina enormes sufrimientos a los animales y ensucia el medio ambiente. Desgraciadamente los criadores de nutrias tienen tiempo hasta el 2024 para terminar sus empresas. Este término es para nosotros como una espina en el ojo, porque con esto hasta el 2024 muchos millones de animales morirán en forma cruel. Desgraciadamente es la única forma de tener una mayoría para la prohibición.
Pensamos que el Partido para el Trabajo (PvdA) han abandonado a los pacientes de la fiebre-Q,, porque repentinamente no quieren presenta más excusas por la fallida previsión gubernamental para combatir la fiebre-Q. Por la epidemia de la fiebre-Q (una enfermedad de cabras y ovejas) son contagiadas miles de personas, cuatro mil personas sufrieron enfermedades crónicas y por lo menos 25 personas han muerto por las consecuencias del contagio. Y tiene que sacrificar a cincuenta mil ovejas y cabras. Si las autoridades hubieran actuado antes, no habría sido tanto.
En Julio presentamos una moción, porque entonces el gobierno rehusó presentar sus excusas y señaló que había actuado bien en la época de la epidemia de la fiebre-Q. Entonces la moción fué rechazada. Por la nueva Cámara nosotros pensamos encontrar una mayoría para la moción y por eso la presentamos nuevamente. Pero desgraciadamente, En Julio el PvdA votó a favor de la moción, pero repentinamente ha cambiado de idea y votó contra la presentación de excusas a los pacientes de la fiebre-Q. Encuentro incomprensible y vergonzoso como un partido puede cambiar 180 grados al recibir la responsabilidad del Gobierno.
Lindas noticias desde Costa Rica. Allí prohiben toda forma de caza por placer. Gran ejemplo para Holanda. Y buenas noticias de Vietnam y Africa del Sur. Estos países se unirán para proteger a los rinocerontes de los cazadores. Esperamos que esto ayudará a darle a este animal la protección que merece.
Y una noticia positiva para esta semana ;-). Una fuerte historia de Sherrey ReimGlickman sobre sus motivos para convertirse en vegetariana los 86 años. Nunca es tarde para cambiar tu actitud y así ayudar a mejorar el mundo!.
Son gratificantes los pronósticos para el 2013 disminuye el consumo de carne en el Occidente. Cada vez hay más alimentos vegetales.

Great news for minks: the end of fur breeding in the Netherlands is in sight. Last Tuesday, the Upper House debated the legislative proposal to ban mink breeding. The majority is sure to sign off on the ban. The vote will take place tomorrow on Tuesday 18 December in the Upper House. People will soon be able to keep minks, but keeping them for their fur seems to have been brought to an end.
We have been working towards a ban since our conception. We recently tabled a motion in which we argue for a European ban on breeding animals for their pelts. Fur production is unethical, unnecessary, causes an enormous amount of animal suffering, and it damages the environment. Unfortunately the mink breeders have until 2024 to dismantle their business operations. This transitional period is a thorn in our side, as many millions of animals will die horribly before 2024 arrives. Unfortunately this was the only way to find a majority for the ban.
We believe that the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA) are leaving Dutch Q fever patients out in the cold, because they suddenly no longer want to apologise for the government's failed policy to combat Q fever. Q fever is a zoonotic illness in goats and sheep. The Q fever epidemic saw tens of thousands of people infected, four thousand people became chronically ill, and at least 25 people died as a consequence. Fifty thousand sheep and goats were also culled. If the government had acted earlier, the situation would have not gotten so out of hand.
We tabled a motion in July, because the government refused to apologise at the time and maintained that they acted appropriately during the Q fever epidemic. The motion was rejected. We thought the new Lower House composition would find a majority for the motion and that's why we brought the issue to order once more. But it was not to be. In July, the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA) voted for the motion, but have since suddenly changed their minds and have voted against apologising to Q fever patients. I think it is truly unbelievable and embarrassing to see how a party can do a complete 180 when given the responsibility of governance.
Wonderful news from Costa Rica. They're banning all forms of hobby hunting. They serve as a great example to the Netherlands. And good news from Vietnam and South Africa. There countries are working together to protect rhinoceroses from poachers. Hopefully this will help give this majestic animal the protection it deserves.

And along this vein, the outlook for 2013 is encouraging: meat consumption in the West is declining. Plant-based nutrition is gaining increasing ground.
