Worldlog Semana 3 – 2014
Deseamos a todos un feliz, sano y respetuoso Ano 2014!
La semana pasada estuve en Portugal y Madeira con nuestro partido hermana PAN. Fue una reunión muy buena e interesante donde se mostro nuestra película ‘De Haas in de Marathon’ (‘El Liebre en el Maratón) en Lisboa y Madeira! El Partido Español para los Animales PACMA también estuvo presente.
También este año hemos insistido en la prohibición de los fuegos artificiales de consumo. Los fuegos artificiales pueden, en nuestra opinión, sólo ser presentado en espectáculos de fuegos artificiales. El dolor, el miedo y el estrés en los animales y las molestias y lesiones a las personas y el daño al medio ambiente son para muchas personas una razón suficiente para introducir un cambio en la tradición de los fuegos artificiales. A pesar del creciente apoyo a la prohibición de fuegos artificiales de consumo, por desgracia aún no hay una mayoría a favor de nuestra propuesta. Pero este año vamos a volver a trabajar vigorosamente con esto, así que todo el mundo puede disfrutar de bellos fuegos artificiales sin un gran daño a los seres humanos, los animales y el medio ambiente.
En los Países Bajos, cientos de personas sufren de lesiones graves alrededor de Año Nuevo, entre ellos un gran número de niños. Alrededor de la mitad de las víctimas son transeúntes que ni siquiera lanzan fuegos artificiales. Al final de año 810 personas han sido atendidas de emergencia en los hospitales por heridas caudadas por los fuegos artificiales, incluyendo lesiones en los ojos. Esto tiene que cambiar!
Al final de 2013, también se han alcanzado algunos éxitos bonitos. Entre otras cosas estamos muy contentos por la decisión que tomo el gobierno para recortar en parte los recortes en la Administración de Alimentos y Productos de Consumo (Nvwa). Por fin habrá más fondos para el control y el cumplimiento, especialmente en el campo de la salud animal y seguridad alimentaria. El Secretario de Estado ha decidido por 100 nuevos puestos de trabajo y 60 puestos de trabajo temporales para un mayor control del sector ganadero.
También tiene que ponerse un fin de la práctica que el carnicero puede prácticamente aprobar su propia carne, quedándose el Nvwa a una gran distancia. Un cambio de sistema en la forma en que se producen nuestros alimentos, seria esencial: la industria alimentaria actual se dirige a producir en la forma más barata posible. Esto ha llevado al oportunismo, el mal trato de los animales y los alimentos nocivos. El bienestar animal y la calidad de los alimentos, garantizado por el gobierno, deben estar nuevamente en primer lugar!
Además fueron aceptadas una serie de enmiendas con referencia a la ley sobre los experimentos con animales, por lo que ahora hay leyes más estrictos para tales experimentos. Así que se van a introducir normas más severas para el uso de monos para experimentos y se van a hacer públicas las decisiones de la comisión que toman para los experimentos en los animales por lo se puede apelar contra tales decisiones.
Mantenemos nuestro compromiso de poner fin a todos las pruebas con animales lo antes posible. Por nuestra lucha el tema ya no se puede dejar fuera de la agenda política y otros partidos están presentando propuestas para recortar el uso de los animales en las pruebas!

I wish everyone a happy, healthy, and animal-friendly 2014!
Last week, I visited our sister party PAN in Portugal and on Madeira. It was a very educational and delightful meeting, during which our film The Pacer in the Marathon was shown in Lisbon and on Madeira! The Spanish party for the animals, PACMA, was there as well.
This year, we called on a ban on consumer fireworks again. In our view, fireworks may only be set off in professionally organised firework shows. For many people, the pain, fear and stress in animals, and the nuisance and damage to people and the environment are sufficient reasons to change the fireworks tradition. Unfortunately, despite the growing support for a ban on consumer fireworks, there is still no Parliamentary majority for our proposal. Nonetheless, we will work vigorously on this issue again in the year to come, so that everyone can enjoy beautiful fireworks without the major damage to people, animals or the environment.
In the Netherlands, hundreds of people suffer serious injuries around New Year’s Eve, including many children. Approximately half of the victims are bystanders, who do not even set off any fireworks themselves. In the last New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day period, 810 people were treated in hospital emergency rooms for fireworks-related injuries, including injuries to eyes. This should and can change!
Several satisfactory successes were still achieved at the end of 2013. For example, we are very happy with the decision of Government to partially reverse cutbacks on the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). Finally, more money will be made available for supervision and enforcement, particularly in the areas of animal welfare, animal health and food safety. In addition, the State Secretary promised 100 structural additional jobs and 60 temporary jobs to allow for more inspections in the animal sector.
However, the situation where butchers literally inspect the very meat they sell, with the NVWA remaining at bay, should also end. It is essential that our food production system will change: the present food industry focuses on producing as much as possible in the cheapest way possible. This has led to opportunism, poor handling of animals and unsafe food. Animal welfare and the quality of food, safeguarded by Government, must come first again!
In addition, several amendments to the Testing on Animals Act were carried, so that stricter rules now apply to animal testing. For example, the use of monkeys in animal testing will be subjected to stricter rules and decisions of the committee that issues permissions for animal testing will become public, so that the decisions can be appealed.
We remain committed to ending all animal testing as soon as possible. Thanks to our commitment, the issue has become part and parcel of the political agenda and also other parties now come up with proposals to reduce the use of animals for testing!
