Worldlog Semana 06 – 2013

¡Qué maravillosa semana para los animales, la naturaleza y el medio ambiente! En el Parlamento fueron aceptadas varias de nuestras mociones para una ecolización radical de la política agrícola. Entre otras cosas el Gobierno tiene que dirigirse hacia la reducción de los subsidios pesqueros europeos y debe acelerar la investigación sobre los problemas de bienestar de los animales domésticos que se crían con el fin de sus apariencias físicas.

Además, el Parlamento acordó poner fin a los transportes de larga duración de animales, considerando también reducir la duración del transporte de animales en la propia Holanda. El arrastro de animales de un lado para otro realmente debe ser reducido. El hecho de que mi moción para llegar a ese fin fuera aprobada es ya una señal de que el Gobierno quiere llegar a una política donde los transportes innecesariamente largos ya no pertenecen!

Además, el gobierno tendrá que poner un alto a la cría y la matanza de animales de experimento. En los Países Bajos, anualmente más de 500.000 animales de experimento son matados por ser sobrados. Este número se suma aun al número de animales que realmente se utilizan en los experimentos. Sera un hermoso nuevo avance en el debate sobre la experimentación con animales!

Por último, el gobierno quiere hacer todo lo posible para estimular el cultivo local de forraje y parar la importación masiva de soja desde América Latina. Esto produce un aumento significativo en la lucha contra la deforestación, la contaminación y la pérdida de la biodiversidad. Pero todavía queda mucho trabajo para hacer.
Esta semana llego la noticia de que los Países Bajos no pertenecen a los diez países de la Unión Europea que se rigen al cien por ciento a las necesidades existentes para la vivienda de las cerdas.
Y vas a firmar también la petición para parar el veneno de abejas en Europa?

Con comprensión hemos tomado nota esta semana de la decisión de nuestra Reina Beatriz para abdicar. Bien podemos imaginar que la Reina a casi 75 años de edad ha decido dejar sus responsabilidades a una nueva generación. Debido a que el sistema de sucesión, por definición queda dentro de la familia y sin interferencia política, el Partido para los Animales decidió no dar un juicio de valor sobre el momento de la abdicación. El Partido para los Animales expresa su agradecimiento por los esfuerzos de la Reina Beatriz durante su mandato y espera que el rey Guillermo IV llenara su función de ejemplo de una forma ejemplar.

Afortunadamente cada vez más personas se dan cuenta que el uso excesivo de antibióticos en la ganadería, y la resistencia a los antibióticos resultante de ello, significa una amenaza mayor para la humanidad que el terrorismo. What a wonderful week for animals, nature, and the environment! The Lower House has accepted several of our motions to radically green agricultural policy. So, the cabinet has had to work on such things as lowering European fishing subsidies, plus it has to hurry up and research welfare issues as regards pets that are bred for certain outward appearance traits.

The Lower House has promised to end long animal transports. The cabinet also needs to see if it can shorten the duration of animal transport in the Netherlands. Moving animals around needs to stop now. The fact my motion to stop this was accepted is a sign that the House wants to work towards a policy that excludes unnecessarily long animal transport!

The cabinet will also need to clamp down on breeding and killing surplus laboratory animals. The Netherlands euthanises more than 500,000 laboratory animals as surplus stock each year. This number is in addition to the animals actually used in animal testing. A wonderful new breakthrough in the debate on animal testing!

Finally, the House wants the cabinet to put everything they have into local animal feed production to stop the mass soy imports from South America. This is large win in the fight against deforestation, environmental pollution, and biodiversity loss. But there is still a lot of work to be done… the news stated this week that the Netherlands is not one of the 10 EU member states that abides 100% by the group accommodation requirement for sows. Will you sign the petition to stop bee poison in Europe?

This week we learned of Queen Beatrix's decision to abdicate the throne. We can absolutely understand why the queen has decided, after almost 75 years, to transfer her responsibilities to the new generation. Because the system of succession to the throne is closed to anyone but family and is not subject to political interference, the Party for the Animals makes no value judgement about this abdication. The Party for the Animals would like to voice its appreciation for Queen Beatrix's efforts during her reign and express its desire for King Willem IV to fill his exemplary function in an exemplary manner.

More and more people are waking up to the fact that overusing antibiotics in cattle farming, and the antibiotic resistance this creates, presents an even greater danger than terrorism.
