Help the Animal Welfare Party bring compassion to UK General Election

19 Νοεμβρίου 2019

The Animal Welfare Party (AWP) is contesting the 2019 General Election in the United Kingdom, taking place on 12th of December. With six candidates, the party is determined to bring much needed compassion into politics and is striving to create a fairer world for people, animals, and the environment. AWP is asking animal and environmental advocates to support their campaign with a donation. Earlier, the party already proved that it can beat the British electoral system that works against smaller parties: earlier this year the party made UK political history winning a seat on Alsager Town Council, beating both the Labour and Conservative candidates.

“It is important that we begin to acknowledge and address the inherent unfairness of our human-centric decision making bodies. We share our world and our natural resources with so many other species, and it is only right and fair that those other animals and their habitats are properly represented and considered in our decision making,” said Jane Smith, AWP deputy leader, councillor in Alsager and candidate for the upcoming election in the constituency of Congleton (Cheshire).

AWP's policies are aimed at creating a fairer, more equitable and sustainable society in which the interests of the people, animals and the environment are all taken into account. The party is part of a growing worldwide political movement focused on the ambition to make a positive change for the planet and -all- its inhabitants. There are now 20 like-minded parties in 20 countries, all sister parties of the AWP. The Dutch Party for the Animals has 80 representatives on different levels of government, and the Australian, German, and Portuguese sister parties have several representatives as well. The movement is being seen as the next emancipation movement.

Some of the main points of the Animal Welfare Party are:

- Improving human health, saving NHS funds, protecting the environment and global food security by promoting healthy plant-based diets.
- Redirecting farming subsidies away from the livestock and fisheries industries and into sustainable, plant-based agriculture.
- Opposing hard Brexit. Supporting a second or 'people’s' referendum on the final exit deal.
- Phasing out farming practices and systems with poor welfare consequences for animals.
- Phasing out animal experimentation with binding targets for reduction combined with proper funding & real support for alternatives.
- Increasing penalties for those convicted of animal abuse - with the maximum custodial sentence for animal abuse raised to 10 years.
- Labelling of all products with information which allows consumers to make informed choices in line with their own principles on the environment, health, animal welfare, and the social circumstances in which a product is produced.
