Animalele din Sint Eustatius mor din cauza secetei severe

Multe animale sunt victime ale secetei persistente pe insula Sint Eustatius. Este vorba despre deces și neglijență gravă printre animalele de pe insula din Antilele Olandeze. Deoarece administrația locală nu ia măsuri, Marianne Thieme solicită guvernului prin întrebări parlamentare să tragă la răspundere administrația locală și să contracareze această neglijență.

Mai mult de 500 de locuitori din Sint Eustatius au solicitat, într-o petiție, guvernului local să ia măsuri împotriva neglijării animalelor din crescătorii în timpul secetei. Insula are multe animale de fermă fără stăpân. Aceste animale o duc foarte greu din cauza secetei. Acestea sunt foarte slabe și nu sunt bine îngrijite de către proprietarii lor. Chiar și animalele îngrădite sunt adesea neglijate grav și mor de deshidratare și de foame. Administrația publică locală nu a intervenit până în prezent pentru a proteja animalele de neglijență și deshidratare.

Bunăstarea animalelor este de competența administrației locale și deci, conducerea din Sint Eustatius trebuie în primul rând să o mențină. Dar dacă guvernul local nu o menține, guvernul neerlandez ar trebui să intervină.

Many animals are victims of the continuous drought on Sint-Eustatius. The cattle on the island of the Caribbean Netherlands are dying and are severely neglected. Because the local government is failing to take action, Marianne Thieme has submitted Parliamentary Questions to call on the cabinet to appeal to the local government and stop this neglect.

Over 500 inhabitants of Sint-Eustatius have asked the local government by means of a petition to take action against neglecting farm animals during the drought. The island has many straying farm animals. These animals have severe problems because of the drought. They are very thin and are not looked after by their owners. Also animals that are kept within fences are often neglected and die as a result of dehydration and starvation. The local government has not yet intervened to protect the animals against neglect and dehydration.

Animal welfare is an island competence and must initially be enforced by the government of Sint-Eustatius. But if the island government refuses to enforce animal welfare, the Dutch government will have to interfere.
