Le parlement néerlandais a adopté une motion du Parti pour les Animaux cette semaine, chargeant la ministre de l’agriculture à mettre en place en 2 mois des objectifs quantifiables dans le domaine du bien-être animal. La ministre a déjà été rappelée à l’ordre deux fois auparavant par le « Algemene Rekenkamer » (la Cour des Comptes), un organe de surveillance indépendante, parce qu’il manquait des objectifs mesurables pour la politique durable et du bien-être animal.
Une grande polémique cette semaine concernait l’île néerlandaise de Texel, où l’Etat a autorisé qu’on évacue et gaze les oies sauvages protégés. Et cela seulement parce que ‘l’organisation la plus grande de protection de la nature’ des Pays-Bas, Natuurmonumenten, trouvait que ces oies seraient en concurrence avec les barges et d’autres oiseaux des prés.
C’est la grande différence avec les protecteurs des animaux et les protecteurs de la nature. Ces derniers ne s’occupent pas du bien-être des animaux tant que la population est suffisamment grande. Ils sont même prêts à diminuer la population quand ils estiment que celle-ci est trop grande.
Des collaborateurs du “Faunabescherming” (protection de la faune) étaient sur place et ont témoigné. Je mets un des témoignages ci-dessous pour vous donner une idée.
Texel, île assasine
Vendredi et samedi dernier j’étais témoin du massacre des oies …. executé par Duke Faunabeheer et la famille chasseur Den hartog. Ces actions ont lieu à la demande de Natuurmonumenten (NM), Staatsbosbheer (SBB, gérant forestier national) et la Province de Noord-Holland. Ils font servilement ce que LTO Nederland leur dit de faire, sans apporter une seule raison qui tient la route.
Je regarde à distance ce qui ce passe, je ne peux pas rentrer sur le terrain appartenant à NM à cause de son statut protégé, ceci tandis que des voitures et des tracteurs piétinent le champs et je me sens si intensément désespéré et triste à devoir regarder (toezien) comment on traite des êtres vivants comme s’ils étaient des encombrants.
La cruauté avec laquelle on chasse ces animaux complètement paniqués, on les jette dans les remorques à bétail, on les prend par leurs pattes et en leur donnant des coups de pied on les empile, c’est indescriptible.
Pleurant et impuissant je vois comment les oies, parents et leurs poussins cacardant à haute voix, appelant leurs proches dans la remorque, sont expédiés au Vernichtungslager, le camp d’extermination, un terrain louche et désordonné avec des grandes baraques appartenant à un membre du conseil d’administration de Texels Belang (Pour l’Intérêt de Texel).
Ils meurent là-bas d’une mort par asphyxie terrible, douloureuse et lente. Les gens de SBB, notamment le gérant de la province de Noord-Holland, et NM, assistent à cette action comme si c’était un pique-nique, en train de bavarder, rigoler et fumer tranquillement…
Comment est-il possible qu’un pays, qui ose s’appeler civilisé, avec des normes et des valeurs dont parlent le gouvernement au quotidien, puisse consentir quelque chose comme cela.
Natuurmonumenten a vendu son âme au CDA (parti politique des chrétiens-démocrates), avec un paysan comme président et un chasseur comme directeur, qui essaie de justifier sa mauvaise gestion concernant les oies cendrées avec des mensonges. J’espère que les membres payant une contribution à NM résilie maintenant leurs abonnements en masse.
J’entends toujours les bruits désespérés des oies et les images de ces animaux innocents, condamnés à mort, qui restent gravés dans ma mémoire. Je ne pourrai jamais les oublier. Je suis anéanti.

L’organisation des jeunes du Parti pour les Animaux, PINK!, a manifesté le 18 juin devant l’ambassade autrichien aux Pays-Bas pour la libération de Martin Balluch, le président de l’association autrichienne contre les usines à animaux Verein Gegen Tierfabriken (VGT). Martin Balluch et quelques autres membres du VGT ont été arrêtés par la police autrichienne et détenus sans accusation. PINK! exige que les protecteurs des animaux soient libérés immédiatement. J’y suis allée également pour donner mon soutien à l’action de PINK!

This week Parliament adopted a motion from the Party for the Animals requiring the Minister of Agriculture to provide measurable goals in regards to animal welfare within two months. The Court of Audit (Algemene Rekenkamer), an independent institution of the Dutch government, had previously reprimanded the minister on two different occasions because there were no measurable goals regarding the animal welfare and sustainability policy.
There was much commotion this week concerning the Dutch island Texel where the government granted permission to capture protected wild geese and gas them. Purely because the largest “nature protection organisation” of the Netherlands, Nature Monuments (Natuurmonumenten), believes that the geese create too much competition for the black-tailed godwit and other grass-land birds.
That is the big difference between animal protectors and nature protectors. Nature protectors do nothing about the welfare of animals as long as the population is large enough. They are even prepared to “thin out” a population that in their opinion is too large.
Employees of the Fauna Protection (Faunabescherming) were on site and gave eyewitness reports. To get an idea, we’ve included one here:
Texel, Murder Island
Last Friday and Saturday, I was witness to the extermination procedures of Duke Faunabeheer and the hunting family Den Hartog. Their extermination of grey geese took place at the request of Nature Monuments, State Forest Management (Staatsbosbeheer) and the province of North Holland. Without a single valid reason, they blindly follow the orders of LTO Nederland (federation for agricultural businesses, ed.).
I see it happening in the distance. I’m not allowed to enter the area which has a protected status because it is owned by Nature Monuments; and meanwhile autos and farmers’ tractors wander right on through. I feel so intensely hopeless and despondent to see how people treat living animals like garbage.
Simply barbaric how the panic stricken animals are chased around, thrown into a livestock truck, grabbed by their legs and kicked in and thrown on top of each other. Indescribably horrific.
Crying and powerless, I watch how the geese, parents and young ones, honking loudly, calling out to family members, get hauled away in the livestock truck to the Vernichtungslager (extermination camp), a dubious, disorderly area with large sheds which belongs to a board member of Texels Belang (a local political party, ed.).
There the geese die a horrible, painful and slow death by suffocation. Meanwhile, the people from State Forest Management (take note: the maintainer of the province North Holland) and Nature Monuments stand by chatting cheerfully with one another, laughing and smoking a cigarette as if it were a pleasant picnic….
How could a country that dares call itself civilised, with a government that is so outspoken about norms and values, allow such a thing?
Nature Monuments has sold its soul to the CDA (Christian democrat party) with a farmer and hunter as leader, a director who tries to justify his insane policies concerning the grey geese with lies. I hope that the paying members of Nature Monuments will cancel their memberships en masse.
I can still hear the desperate honking sounds, and the images of the innocent animals sentenced to death are engraved in my memory forever. I will never forget it. I am devastated.

On the 18th of June, the youth organisation of the Party for the Animals, PINK!, protested at the Austrian embassy in the Netherlands for the release of Martin Balluch, the president of the Association Against Animal Factories (Verein Gegen Tierfabriken – VGT) in Austria. Martin Balluch and several other members of VGT were arrested by the Austrian police and taken into custody without charge. PINK! wants the animal protectors of VGT released immediately. I also personally went to show my support for the protest of PINK!.
