La campagne pour les élections municipales néerlandaises du 21 mars a maintenant vraiment démarré. Nous participons dans 15 communes et partout nos membres travaillent sans relâche pour impliquer le plus de personnes possible dans la lutte pour notre planète et tous ses habitants. Dans les semaines à venir, je donnerai quelques conférences à travers le pays avec le géographe financier Ewald Engelen. L’année dernière, nous avons écrit ensemble le livre ‘Le Canari dans la Mine de Charbon’, un livre sur la situation intenable des choix politiques et financiers actuels et la nécessité d’un changement de cap radical. Le livre est également disponible en anglais.

Conférence de Marianne et Ewald

Ce mois-ci, avec des milliers d’autres Néerlandais, nous avons réussi à sauver deux vaches rebelles destinées à la boucherie. Les vaches, Hermien et Zus, se sont échappées juste avant d’aller à l’abattoir. La vache Zus était vite attrapée, mais Hermien a continué à se cacher dans les bois pendant des semaines. Du fait que ces vaches sont un merveilleux symbole du besoin de liberté qu’ont les animaux, nous avions lancé une campagne de crowdfunding, dans l’espérance de -en tous cas- donner à Hermien une belle vie dans une maison de repos pour les vaches. La campagne a été si réussie que nous avons non seulement pu transférer Hermien, mais aussi sa compagne Zus à la maison de retraite, où elles seront bien soignées pour le reste de leur vie. Nous espérons qu’à l’avenir aucun animal n’aura plus à courir pour sauver sa vie s’il entre en contact avec des gens.

Commission sur le glyphosate avec Anja Hazekamp

Dans mon précédent Worldlog, j’ai annoncé que le Parlement Européen mettra en place une commission spéciale pour enquêter sur les conflits d’intérêts qui ont joué un rôle dans la prolongation de la licence délivrée par l’UE concernant le poison agricole controversé glyphosate. Notre députée européenne Anja Hazekamp a été l’une des promotrices de la commission d’enquête et l’on sait maintenant qu’elle participera à cette commission. Nous sommes heureux avec Anja dans la commission, parce qu’elle est déterminée de tirer l’affaire au clair à tout prix!

Nous apportons de bonnes nouvelles de la Belgique: hier notre parti-frère belge ‘DierAnimal’ a été lancé lors d’une conférence de presse qui a suscité un grand intérêt. C’est fantastique qu’un nouveau partenaire se soit associé à notre combat international pour une planète plus habitable.

Leonardo DiCaprio parle du changement climatique

La semaine dernière, j’étais présente lors d’un événement néerlandais pour des organisations caritatives, où Leonardo DiCaprio a fait un discours. L’acteur s’engage pour un meilleur climat grâce à sa Fondation Leonardo DiCaprio. Dans son discours, DiCaprio a également fait allusion à l’industrie du poisson et de la viande, qui est désastreuse pour notre planète, l’homme et les animaux. Tout comme le Parti pour les Animaux, il pense que nous avons attendu trop longtemps pour nous attaquer aux conséquences du réchauffement climatique et que nous devons maintenant faire tout ce qui est en notre pouvoir pour que la terre reste vivable.

Journalistes japonais

En conclusion: Le New York Times a écrit un bel article sur la Police des Animaux néerlandaise, pour lequel j’ai été interviewée. J’y plaide pour une police des animaux avec encore plus de pouvoirs, y compris l’aide aux millions d’animaux dans l’industrie du bétail. Les journalistes japonais s’intéressent également à notre parti: j’ai récemment donné une interview dans Asahi Shimbun, le deuxième plus grand journal au Japon au tirage de huit millions d’exemplaires. Ils s’intéressaient vivement au Parti pour les Animaux et au thème de la mise à mort sans étourdissement. Pour un PplA japonais!

The campaign for the Dutch municipal elections on the 21st of March is in full swing now. We participate in 15 municipalities and our members are making inexhaustible efforts to involve as many people as possible in the fight for our planet and all its inhabitants. Over the next few weeks, I will give several lectures throughout the country together with the financial geographer Ewald Engelen. Last year, we jointly wrote the book “The Canary in the Coal Mine”, a book about the untenability of the current political and financial choices and about the necessity for a radical change of course. The book is also available in English.

Together with thousands of other Dutch people we managed to save two rebel cows from slaughter. The cows, Hermien and Zus, escaped just before they were to be transported to the slaughterhouse. Cow Zus was captured quickly but Hermien kept hiding in the forests for weeks. Because these cows are a great symbol for the urge for animal freedom, we had set up a crowdfunding action hoping to raise money to give at least Hermien a beautiful life in a cow rest house. This action was so successful that we did not only manage to bring Hermien to the resthouse but also her mate Zus. They will be looked after in the resthouse for the rest of their lives. We hope that in the future no animal at all will have to run for its life when they come in contact with people.

In my previous Worldlog I told you that the European Parliament is going to set up a special committee to carry out an investigation into the conflicts of interests that arose when the EU licence for the controversial agriculture pesticide had to be extended. Our MEP Anja Hazekamp was one of the initiators of the investigation committee and it has meanwhile become known that she will become a member of the committee in question. We are pleased that Anja will be a member of the committee because she is determined to get to the bottom of this.

We have received good news from Belgium: yesterday our Belgian sister party “DierAnimal” was launched during a busy press conference. It’s great that we have gained another partner in our international fight for a liveable planet.

Leonardo DiCaprio talks about climate change

Last week, I attended a Dutch event for good causes, at which Leonardo DiCaprio gave a lecture. The actor is working to get a better climate with his Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. In his speech, DiCaprio also addressed the fish and meat industry, which is disastrous for our planet, humans and animals. Like the Party for the Animals, he believes that we have waited too long to tackle the consequences of global warming and that we now have to give out all to maintain the earth liveable.

Japanese journalists

In conclusion: The New York Times wrote a nice article about the Dutch Animal Police, for which I was interviewed. In this interview, I pleaded for an animal police with more authority, including helping millions of animals in the livestock industry. Japanese journalists are also interested in our party: I recently gave an interview to The Asahi Shimbum, the second biggest newspaper in Japan with a circulation of eight million. They were very interested in the Party for the Animals and the topic of unstunned slaughter. Go for a Japanese PftA!
