Worldlog Semana 25 – 2008
Esta semana el Parlamento acepto una moción del Partido para los Animales en la que se le encomienda a la ministra de presentar en dos meses unos objetivos claros en el terreno del bienestar de los animales. Ya en dos ocasiones anteriores la ‘Algemene Rekenkamer’ (Cámera donde se realizan las cuentas) – una instancia de control independiente del Gobierno Holandes – llamo la atención a la ministra por la falta de objetivos calculables en el terreno del bienestar y política a largo plazo en beneficio de los animales.
Había mucha conmoción esta semana alrededor de la isla de Texel, donde las autoridades dieron el permiso para recoger y gasificar a gansos salvajes y protegidos. Por la única razón que la más grande ‘organización para la protección de la naturaleza’ de Holanda, Natuurmonumenten, le pareció que los gansos harían competencia al cotillo y otras aves de pasto.
Esto es la más grande diferencia entre los protectores de los animales y los protectores de la naturaleza. Estos últimos no hacen nada para proteger el bienestar de los animales mientras la población de ellos siga siendo suficientemente grande. Hasta son capaces de disminuirlo en caso de que este sea demasiado grande.
Colaboradores de la Protección de la Fauna estaban en el lugar para dar un reportaje de testigo. Aquí les doy uno para que tengan una idea:
Texel, isla de la muerte
El viernes, sábado y domingo pasado fui testigo de una de las acciones exterminadoras de los gansos grises por Duke Faunabeheer (administración de la fauna) y la familia de cazadores Den Hartog. Tales acciones tienen lugar a petición de Natuurmonumenten (Monumentos Estatales) (NM), Staatsbosbeheer (Explotación Estatal Forestal) (SBB) y la Provincia de Noord-Holland. Sin dar un solo motivo siguieron sin protesta la orden de LTO.
Lo veo pasar a una distancia ya que no puedo entrar al terreno por tener el estatus de protección, mientras los coches y los tractores si lo pasan sin problema. Me siento desesperado y triste al tener que ver como tratan a animales vivos como una basura.
La crueldad con la que tratan a los animales totalmente en pánico, pegándolos para que entren en el carro de ganado, levantándolos de las patas, dándolos patadas y amontonándolos no tiene nombre.
Llorando y con una gran impotencia tengo que mirar como los gansos, grandes y pequeños llamando a sus familiares en el carro, los llevan al ‘Vernichtungslager’, un terreno desordenado y oscuro y con grandes graneros que pertenecen a uno de los representantes de ‘Texels Belang’ (oficina para los intereses de Texel).
Allí mueren una muerte terrible, dolorosa y lenta, asfixiándose. Los hombres de SBB – y los mantenedores de la provincia de Noord-Holland – y NM durante la mencionada acción están hablando entre ellos como sin nada, riéndose y fumando un cigarrillo como que si fuera un pic nic en el campo…
Como es posible que un país que dice ser civilizado y con normas y valores de los que no deja hablar el gabinete, puede permitir semejante cosa.
Natuurmonumenten se vendió al CDA (Partido Cristiano Demócrata) con un agricultor y un cazador como representante, un director quien con mentiras intenta defender su política falsa con referencia al Ganso Gris. Espero que los miembros que tiene NM y los que pagan ahora cancelan todos su calidad de miembro.
Sigo escuchando el sonido de los gansos desesperados y veo las visiones de esos animales que los mataron inocentes. Nunca lo voy a olvidar, me siento acabada.

La organización de jóvenes del Partido para los Animales, PINK!, protesto el día 18 de junio frente a la Embajada de Austria en Holanda por la liberación de Martín Balluch y algunos miembros mas de la organización Austriaca Verein Gegen Tierfabrike (VGT). Martín Balluch y otros miembros de VGT fueron arrestados y detenidos por la policía de Austria sin acusación. PINK! quiere que los protectores de animales de VGT sean liberados inmediatamente. Yo también me he juntado a la acción de PINK! Para dar mi apoyo.

This week Parliament adopted a motion from the Party for the Animals requiring the Minister of Agriculture to provide measurable goals in regards to animal welfare within two months. The Court of Audit (Algemene Rekenkamer), an independent institution of the Dutch government, had previously reprimanded the minister on two different occasions because there were no measurable goals regarding the animal welfare and sustainability policy.
There was much commotion this week concerning the Dutch island Texel where the government granted permission to capture protected wild geese and gas them. Purely because the largest “nature protection organisation” of the Netherlands, Nature Monuments (Natuurmonumenten), believes that the geese create too much competition for the black-tailed godwit and other grass-land birds.
That is the big difference between animal protectors and nature protectors. Nature protectors do nothing about the welfare of animals as long as the population is large enough. They are even prepared to “thin out” a population that in their opinion is too large.
Employees of the Fauna Protection (Faunabescherming) were on site and gave eyewitness reports. To get an idea, we’ve included one here:
Texel, Murder Island
Last Friday and Saturday, I was witness to the extermination procedures of Duke Faunabeheer and the hunting family Den Hartog. Their extermination of grey geese took place at the request of Nature Monuments, State Forest Management (Staatsbosbeheer) and the province of North Holland. Without a single valid reason, they blindly follow the orders of LTO Nederland (federation for agricultural businesses, ed.).
I see it happening in the distance. I’m not allowed to enter the area which has a protected status because it is owned by Nature Monuments; and meanwhile autos and farmers’ tractors wander right on through. I feel so intensely hopeless and despondent to see how people treat living animals like garbage.
Simply barbaric how the panic stricken animals are chased around, thrown into a livestock truck, grabbed by their legs and kicked in and thrown on top of each other. Indescribably horrific.
Crying and powerless, I watch how the geese, parents and young ones, honking loudly, calling out to family members, get hauled away in the livestock truck to the Vernichtungslager (extermination camp), a dubious, disorderly area with large sheds which belongs to a board member of Texels Belang (a local political party, ed.).
There the geese die a horrible, painful and slow death by suffocation. Meanwhile, the people from State Forest Management (take note: the maintainer of the province North Holland) and Nature Monuments stand by chatting cheerfully with one another, laughing and smoking a cigarette as if it were a pleasant picnic….
How could a country that dares call itself civilised, with a government that is so outspoken about norms and values, allow such a thing?
Nature Monuments has sold its soul to the CDA (Christian democrat party) with a farmer and hunter as leader, a director who tries to justify his insane policies concerning the grey geese with lies. I hope that the paying members of Nature Monuments will cancel their memberships en masse.
I can still hear the desperate honking sounds, and the images of the innocent animals sentenced to death are engraved in my memory forever. I will never forget it. I am devastated.

On the 18th of June, the youth organisation of the Party for the Animals, PINK!, protested at the Austrian embassy in the Netherlands for the release of Martin Balluch, the president of the Association Against Animal Factories (Verein Gegen Tierfabriken – VGT) in Austria. Martin Balluch and several other members of VGT were arrested by the Austrian police and taken into custody without charge. PINK! wants the animal protectors of VGT released immediately. I also personally went to show my support for the protest of PINK!.
