Worldlog Semana 08 – 2009

Esta semana continuamos con el curso ‘como formar un Partido para los Animales en tu propio país’.

Date cuenta que al humano por naturaleza no le gusta cambiarse ni mucho menos ser criticado por su comportamiento en relación a otros seres vivientes.

Por esto nunca antes en la historia se vio que entrara en el Parlame3nto un partido político que no llevaba los intereses de los humanos como su mayor prioridad sino que opto mejor por un trabajo más amplio centrado en los intereses de los más débiles.

Era de esperar que en el inicio había mucha conturbación cuando nosotros entramos al Parlamento con dos, casi tres puestos. Los otros políticos no hallaban la forma como presentar los mas temas posibles referentes a animales para así frenarnos. Hasta la ministra de agricultura indico en una entrevista que daba la orden a sus funcionarios para ‘bloquear el Partido para los Animales’.

Luego comenzaron todo tipo de molestias. Los Cristianos Demócratas que tenían que desalojar todo el corredor en el edificio del Parlamento para dar lugar a nosotros, sus ‘enemigos’ naturales y trataban de provocar una plaga de ratones dejando sus migajas de pan. Dándose cuenta que nosotros no queríamos que se echara veneno para ratones en nuestro corredor y en nuestras oficinas, ellos inmediatamente contactaron el periódico más grande de las mañanas hablando de una plaga de ratones que estaba por venir.
Eso no era verdad. No habiendo dejado restos de comida en nuestras oficinas (supuestamente somos más decentes cuidando nuestras habitaciones que los Cristianos Demócratas) no habían entrado ratones.

En el Parlamento la gente se reía de nuestra misión. Por ejemplo en dicusiones referente a submarinos de la Clase de los Elefantes Marinos nos decían: “Atención Marianne, Esther, los elefantes marinos también son animales!”

Eran grandes las frustraciones de la gente referentes a nuestro triunfo. Esto se mostró sobre todo cuando durante el primer presupuesto para la agricultura un 80 % del tema se concentraba en los derechos para los animales y el bienestar de los animales. Esto era por primera vez en la historia y se repetía durante cada debate siguiente.

Luego los Demócratas Cristianas trataban de portarse bien con nosotros. Así como hacen los entrenadores en el boxeo: Inclínate hacia tu adversario cuando no puedes ganar de el. Así no te puede pegar tan duro!

Poco después de las elecciones para la Cámara Popular seguían las elecciones para los Estados Provinciales y la Alta Cámara y también allí llegamos a tener grande éxitos. 9 miembros estatales en 8 departamentos regionales y un representante en la Alta Cámara. No llegamos a tener dos representantes allí porque un representante de otro partido (Groen Links = el Partido Verde Izquierda) por error voto mal. Durante una división complicada para la repartición de la silla restante se nos fue quitada así un segundo puesto a favor del partido socialista.

Sea como sea, hemos podido mostrar que no somos cachipollas ni un ‘error’ o un ‘chiste’ del elector.

Esto es definitivamente algo para sentirse orgulloso, pero nos dio también una gran responsabilidad. Ya no íbamos a devolver la posición adquirida, ni que nuestra meta final hubiera sido volverse inútil.

This week we will continue with the “course” on how you can set up a Party for the Animals in your own country.
You need to realise that man does not really have it in his nature to change and does not enjoy being lectured on his behaviour in relation to other living creatures.

And yet here is a reason that never before in history has a political party that does not place the most importance on the needs of people, but chooses a planet-wide approach that focuses on the needs of the weakest party, made it into parliament.

Politicians were naturally shocked when we stormed into parliament with two, nearly three seats. The other political parties were falling over themselves trying to introduce as many animal-friendly policies as they could in an effort to try and meet popular demand. The Minister of Agriculture even admitted in an interview she had passed on the task to her civil servants to “take the wind out of the Party for the Animals' sails”.

Immediately thereafter came a plethora of small annoyances. The Christian Democrats who had to clean out an entire wing in the parliamentary building to make room for us – their natural 'enemies', left behind a trail of breadcrumbs to try and saddle us with an infestation of mice. When they heard we didn't want mouse poison being spread in our rooms, they immediately tipped off the Netherlands' largest morning paper about an imminent plague of mice in governmental buildings. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Because we didn't drop food everywhere (we were obviously tidier than our Christian Democrat counterparts) we had absolutely no trouble from mice whatsoever.

In the house, they tried to deride our mission by doing such things as whispering “Marianne, Esther, walruses are animals too, pay attention!” when they were discussing the Walrus class submarines.

The incumbent political parties where highly frustrated with our breakthrough, especially when, for the first time in history, it appeared that 80% of the first agricultural budget discussed animal rights and animal welfare. Every time the issue was debated, this theme was discussed anew.

The Christian Democrats tried to be as nice to us as they could after that, similar to a boxer who is taught that you should lean on your opponent if you can't take them on – that way they can't hit you as hard!

The provincial and Upper House elections followed shortly after the Lower House elections. We did well in both. We gained nine members of parliament in eight regional governments and one member in the Upper House. The reason we did not have two representatives was due to a member of parliament belonging to another party (GroenLinks) accidently voted the wrong way, creating a complicated situation whereby our second seat was taken from us and given to the socialist party.

At any rate, we were able to show we were not mere flashes in the pan, nor were we any voter's “mistake” or “joke”.

Something of which to be one hundred percent proud, but it also gives us a great deal of responsibility. We can no longer give up the position we have acquired, even though we have the ultimate goal of becoming surplus to requirements.
