La campaña para las elecciones municipales holandesas del 21 de marzo ahora está realmente en pleno apogeo. Participamos en 15 municipalidades y en todas partes nuestros miembros trabajan incansablemente para involucrar a tantas personas como sea posible en la lucha por nuestro planeta y todos sus habitantes. En las próximas semanas daré una serie de conferencias en el país en compañia del geógrafo financiero Ewald Engelen. Juntos escribimos el libro “El Canario en la Mina de Carbón” el año pasado, un libro sobre la insostenibilidad de las elecciones políticas y financieras actuales y la necesidad de un cambio radical de rumbo. Junto con miles de otros holandeses, hemos podido salvar a dos vacas rebeldes de su sacrificio. Las vacas, Hermien y Zus, escaparon justo antes de ir al matadero. La vaca Zus pronto fue atrapada, pero Hermien se mantuvo escondida en el bosque durante semanas. Debido a que estas vacas son un maravilloso símbolo de la necesidad de libertad existente en los animales, habíamos comenzado una campaña de crowdfunding, en la cual esperábamos en todo caso darle a Hermien una vida hermosa en un hogar de descanso de vacas. La campaña fue tan exitosa que no solo pudimos transferir a Hermien, sino también a su compañera Zus al asilo de vacas ancianas, donde estarán bien cuidados por el resto de sus vidas. Esperamos que en el futuro ya ningún animal tenga que huir por sus vidas despues de entrar en contacto con los humanos.

En mi anterior Worldlog, dije que el Parlamento Europeo establecería un comité especial para investigar los conflictos de intereses que jugaron un papel en la extensión de la licencia de la UE para el controvertido veneno agrícola glifosato. Nuestra Eurodiputada Anja Hazekamp fue una de las iniciadoras de la comisión de investigación y ahora se sabe que tomará parte en ese comité. Estamos contentos de poter contar con Anja en el comité, ¡porque ella está decidida a investigar todo al maximo!

Tenemos buenas noticias de Bélgica: ayer se lanzó en Belgica nuestro partido hermano ‘DierAnimal’ fiesta hermana belga “DierAnimal” durante una conferencia de prensa muy concurrida. Es fantástico que hemos logrado tener otro socio en nuestra lucha internacional por un planeta habitable.

Leonardo DiCaprio habla sobre el cambio climatico

La semana pasada asistí a un evento holandés para organizaciones benéficas, donde Leonardo DiCaprio dio una charla. El actor Estadounidense usa su Fundación Leonardo DiCaprio para llegar a un clima mejor. En su discurso, DiCaprio también señaló la industria del pescado y la carne, que es desastrosa para nuestro planeta, para los humanos y los animales. Al igual que el Partido para los Animales el cree que hemos esperado demasiado para abordar las consecuencias del calentamiento global y que ahora debemos hacer todo lo posible para mantener la tierra habitable.

Periodistas japoneses

En conclusión: The New York Times escribió un bonito artículo sobre la Policía de Animales de los Países Bajos, para el cual yo fui entrevistado. En él defiendo una policía de animales con más poderes, que incluye ayudar a los millones de animales en la industria ganadera. Los periodistas japoneses también están interesados en nuestro partido: recientemente concedí una entrevista a The Asahi Shimbun, con una edición de ocho millones, el segundo periódico más grande de Japón. Estaban muy interesados en el Partido para los Animales y el tema fue el sacrificio sin aturdimiento. ¡a ver si se llegue a un Partido para los Animales japonés!

The campaign for the Dutch municipal elections on the 21st of March is in full swing now. We participate in 15 municipalities and our members are making inexhaustible efforts to involve as many people as possible in the fight for our planet and all its inhabitants. Over the next few weeks, I will give several lectures throughout the country together with the financial geographer Ewald Engelen. Last year, we jointly wrote the book “The Canary in the Coal Mine”, a book about the untenability of the current political and financial choices and about the necessity for a radical change of course. The book is also available in English.

Together with thousands of other Dutch people we managed to save two rebel cows from slaughter. The cows, Hermien and Zus, escaped just before they were to be transported to the slaughterhouse. Cow Zus was captured quickly but Hermien kept hiding in the forests for weeks. Because these cows are a great symbol for the urge for animal freedom, we had set up a crowdfunding action hoping to raise money to give at least Hermien a beautiful life in a cow rest house. This action was so successful that we did not only manage to bring Hermien to the resthouse but also her mate Zus. They will be looked after in the resthouse for the rest of their lives. We hope that in the future no animal at all will have to run for its life when they come in contact with people.

In my previous Worldlog I told you that the European Parliament is going to set up a special committee to carry out an investigation into the conflicts of interests that arose when the EU licence for the controversial agriculture pesticide had to be extended. Our MEP Anja Hazekamp was one of the initiators of the investigation committee and it has meanwhile become known that she will become a member of the committee in question. We are pleased that Anja will be a member of the committee because she is determined to get to the bottom of this.

We have received good news from Belgium: yesterday our Belgian sister party “DierAnimal” was launched during a busy press conference. It’s great that we have gained another partner in our international fight for a liveable planet.

Leonardo DiCaprio talks about climate change

Last week, I attended a Dutch event for good causes, at which Leonardo DiCaprio gave a lecture. The actor is working to get a better climate with his Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. In his speech, DiCaprio also addressed the fish and meat industry, which is disastrous for our planet, humans and animals. Like the Party for the Animals, he believes that we have waited too long to tackle the consequences of global warming and that we now have to give out all to maintain the earth liveable.

Japanese journalists

In conclusion: The New York Times wrote a nice article about the Dutch Animal Police, for which I was interviewed. In this interview, I pleaded for an animal police with more authority, including helping millions of animals in the livestock industry. Japanese journalists are also interested in our party: I recently gave an interview to The Asahi Shimbum, the second biggest newspaper in Japan with a circulation of eight million. They were very interested in the Party for the Animals and the topic of unstunned slaughter. Go for a Japanese PftA!
